With just two weeks to the Ekiti re-run governorship election in that  state, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Oladimeji Bankole  says the government will not allow Ekiti to degenerate to what happened
in Jos recently.

Speaking with airport correspondents in Lagos, Bankole who reminded the  people of Ekiti State of the 1983 political crisis between Omoboriowo  and Ajasin in the old Ondo State, warned the people to be law abiding to  ensure that peace reigns.

According Bankole,Ekiti State has suffered a lot of setback as a  result political crisis in that state and there was the need for peace  to be brought back there."Don’t forget that Ekiti, not too long ago for
six months was under emergency rule and those political players are  still on the field today. Don’t forget 1983, as far as Omoboriowo is  concerned. Don’t forget west here in 1963"

He urged the elders of Ekiti to wade into the crisis and ensure that  there was sanity in that state. "I am asking elders to wade into Ekiti  to make sure that law and order does not break down. Government will  have to stand firm and be seen to stand firm, so that when someone asks  me this question in ten years time, I can say yes, Dimeji Bankole did every thing to make sure that law and order did not break down in Ekiti
whether it is AC, whether it is PDP''Bankole said

But Bankole's words of caution may have come as an afterthought as he was one of the PDP leaders who reportedly said during electioneering that everything would be done by the  party to win the re-run.Speaker Bankole later denied reports linking him  with the call for the deployment of soldeirs for the polls in Ekiti.

On the withdrawal of security men attached to the former vice president Atiku Abubakar, the Speaker said the House will look into the matter.
