The Matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs.)
Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo has urged Ogun State
Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to remain focused
irrespective of the goings on around him. Chief Mrs.
Awolowo stated this through her son and publisher of
the Tribune Titles Chief Oluwole Awolowo during the
53rd birthday church service held in honour of
Governor Daniel at the valley view auditorium,
Government House, Abeokuta, Monday April 6. Mama who
described Governor Daniel as her son asked him not
allow himself to be distracted by those who do not
mean well for the State.
According to a press release by Adegebenro
Adebanjo, chief press secretary to the
governor,Chief Mrs. Awolowo who is also the Yeye
Oodua saluted Governor Daniel’s administration’s
track record of good governance that has touched the
lives of the people. She further stated that that
the spirit of Obafemi Awolowo, her husband, lives on
in the Ogun State Governor. She said at 53. Otunba
Daniel “is now more
mature and a member of the generation of elders”.
On his part Professor Akin Mabogunje, erudite
scholar, lauded Governor Daniel for the wisdom of
involving the elders of the state in the process of
governance. He said even those who run the economy
of the world now know that they cannot do without
the wisdom of the elders giving the difficulty now
prevailing in the world. Apostle Hayford Alile
former Director- General of the Nigerian Stock
Exchange who was also at the occasion said Governor
Daniel has shown the difference in purposeful
leadership through his good governance. He said the
governor can be rightly described as a jewel of good
governance that after eight years should be
graduated into the corp. of National leadership to
serve Nigeria the way he has served Ogun
State creditably well.
Earlier Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain
Assembly, in a short homily, urged men to see life
as a gift which must be used for the advantage of
others. He urged the Governor to continue the good
works of his administration in spite of what he
called obstacles in his way. “In the midst of crisis
and attack, however vicious
keep on doing what is right because what is wrong
and who is wrong will wear themselves out,” the man
of God said. Yeye Olufunke Daniel, wife of the
Governor and chairperson of the Gateway Front
Foundation, who put the event together described her
husband as a man whose passion for service to the
people is infectious.
The early morning service was attended by eminent
Nigerians including business leaders, politicians,
captains of industry, traditional rulers, members of
the diplomatic corp and generality of the people.
