Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission(EFCC) yesterday arrested and detained Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Chief in Imo State, Hope
Uzodinma, for yet unspecified reasons. This is as the
six commissioners in the National Electric Regulatory
Board (NERC), were granted administrative bail. However,
as at last night, they were yet to fulfil the bail
conditions. Spokesman of the Commission, Femi
Babafemi, confirmed the arrest yesterday, but declined
to comment further, saying he did not have details of
the development, but sources at the Commission said
Uzodinma was arrested following series of petitions
against him. THISDAY sources said Uzodinma was
arrested based on allegation by a lady, who said he
allegedly collected N50million from her. Uzodinma
contested the 2003 and 2007 gubernatorial election in
Imo State, on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy
(AD) and the PDP respectively. A foundation member
of the PDP, he declared for the AD in the run up of the
2003 polls, which he lost to Achike Udenwa of the PDP,
the then incumbent governor.
However, in 2004, he
retraced his steps to the PDP in Imo State. Inthe 2007
polls, he flew the party's flag, but lost to Ikedi
Ohakim, of the Peoples Progressive Alliance(PPA), his
erstwhile running mate in the 2003 election. In the
days leading to the 2007 election, Uzodinma formed an
organisation called South-east Development Initiative
(SEDI), to build his political empire. At the
inauguration of the Association, Uzodinam, Chairman of
the Niger Global Nigeria Ltd, said SEDI was to help in
the game-plan to redress the widely perceived Igbo
