DISAGREEING WITH IKE NWACHUKWU COMMITTEE
Akpabio Iniama Newsdiaryonline  Wed Nov 4,2009

Sir,

It is a fact that there exists many problems plaguing the PDP as a party and needed to be sorted out. As a result it has inaugurated many committees some of which have left problems more bruised after interventions and this is what the party needs to urgently look into.

Prince Ogbulafor as the national Chairman of the PDP has not even fared any better in his handling of some PDP States problems; for example in Imo, Anambra and Plateau. Likewise, the action  of the Ike Nwachukwu-led Elders Committee to Akwa Ibom; Nwachukwu thereafter the  visit announced that his Committee has achieved what it set out for, whereas it left more discordant tunes in the Akwa Ibom PDP.

From what we read in the media; there was an earlier meeting at James Ibori,s house in Abuja where key issues towards solving PDP lingering problem in Akwa Ibom were considered, but the Elders Committee may have under compromise as believed by many, glossed over what could have earned PDP a better settled situation. For instance what made the Committee, after a successful meeting at former governor Attah's residence, move to Ibom Hall (venue) where only people believed to be loyal to Akpabio were assembled, is what the PDP hierarchy in Abuja should ask to find out; the nagging issue (Ita Etuk) moved Vote of Thanks there at the venue.

What is really at stake is that Uyo Senatorial District was to produce the PDP State Chairman, and sure Ita Etuk is from that District. But how he was cropped up is the bone of contention. If all the who-is-who of the Uyo Senatorial District of the PDP are saying that there was no consultation before Ita was single-handedly picked and made State PDP Chairman by Governor Akpabio who is from a different (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District, then it is a matter that the top hierarchy of the Party in Abuja should not pretend to ignore.

Contrary to what was agreed  at  the Committee level, Akpabio instead forced as State Chairman of PDP Ita Etuk who was his Special Assistant. Furthermore, Bishop Akpan, the PDP State deputy Chairman was another former Special Assistant to Akpabio and head of his AKPF. Barrister Ibanga Akpabio also a  Special Assistant and brother of the governor got rewarded with State PDP Secretary. There is no way PDP could sideline the important personalities of the Party and pretend there will be peace.

It is a common stand and right thing that, if the Party wants peace and control in Akwa Ibom, this matter that has lingered must be addressed. It should ignore the blackmail going on that supporters of Attah (a PDP BoT member) are planning to dump the party.

Akpabio Iniama,
