ILLEGAL DETENTION OF COMMRADE
ABDULAHI EBILOME THE CURRENT
PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
NIGERIAN STUDENTS BY MEN AND
OFFICERS OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE
COMMAND ASOKORO CLAIMING TO BE
ACTING ON THE ORDER OF THE ACP
OPERATIONS
The current President of the
National Association of Nigerian
Students, COMMRADE ABBULAHI
EBILOME is currently being
detained at the Nigeria Police
Command Asokoro.
We gathered that Comrade Ebilome was
at the bank on the 9th
day of July, 2009 when some
unscrupulous members of the
association attempted to kidnap him.
The Bank Manager had to intervene to
save the ugly situation. Ebilome
thereupon alerted the Police headed
by one Inspector Momoh who took both
Ebilome and the factional leader to
the Police Station Asokoro. We
learnt that after both Ebilome and
the factional leader had written
their statements, the Asokoro Police
Command detained Comrade Ebilome
whereas the other factional leader
was allowed to go scot free.
Our Alexander Oketa, Esq approached
the Police Station Asokoro on the 11th
day of July 2009 to ask for his bail
but was told by the D.C.O at the
Station that Comrade Ebilome was
being detained on the order of the
A.C.P Operations and that there is
no Investigating Police Officer (I.P.O).
He added that they were not
investigating Comrade Ebilome but
were only acting on an instruction
from the A.C.P Operations. When
asked of the phone no. of the A.C.P
Operations who purportedly ordered
for Ebilome detention, the D.C.O
denied having his number.
Inspector Momoh who brought Comrade
Abudulahi Ebilome and the leader of
the factional group to the Police
Station however denied that the
A.C.P Operations ordered for Comrade
Ebilome’s detention.
The Divisional Police Officer
in-charge of Asokoro Police Station
Mr. Ahmed Musa when contacted denied
any knowledge of Comrade Ebilome’s
illegal detention.
Comrade Abdulahi Ebilome who is the
Complainant is still in detention at
Asokoro Police Station under a
serious inhuman and deteriorating
condition with nobody to address the
ugly situation on ground. He simply
ran from “frying pan” to “furnace”
(i.e from the hands of the lawless
factional group to the hands of
zealot and unscrupulous police
officers).
We are indeed perplexed that this is
happening in the heart of a country
where the clamour for the rule of
law has become a national anthem.
We are however determined to take
cogent legal steps to get redress
for and on behalf of Comrade
Abdulahi Ebilome.
