Highly dependable sources have
told newsdiaryonline that Turai YarAdua , wife of
Nigeria’s president was sighted in Makkah.Informed
insiders are surprised that it was only Turai that
made the trip.
It was learnt on Wednesday that
even President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua had been
expected to travel along with his wife to Saudi
Arabia.Yar’Adua was said to have told his very
close family members that he would be going to Saudi
Arabia for at least
two days in order to perform Umrah, the
lesser haj.
Many insiders are surprised
that the president either cancelled or suspended the
trip because it seemed he was determined to travel..The
exact reason for the last minute cancellation of the
trip is not known yet.In fact ,prior to the
cancellation there were wild speculations that he
might be planning to
go for another medical attention, but an
official source told newsdiaryonline that the reason
the president wanted to travel was truly for the
lesser haj.
Of
late, top officials of government and the People’s
Democratic Party , PDP have said that despite media
reports to the contrary, the President is healthy
enough to lead the country. The latest twist is
that officials led by Adamu Aliero,
minister of the FCT have begun to campaign for
YarAdua’s second term.Aliero said he is close to
the president to
know that the Yar’Adua
is strong enough to run as PDP presidential
candidate in 2011.While the campaign for second term
continues, many eyes are focused on the
president’s saggy , frail
looks.
Yar’Adua’s last minute
cancellation or suspension of
his trip to Saudi Arabia may have been
aimed at dousing further worries about his
health if such a trip becomes public.Last year,Yar
Adua spent some days in Saudi Arabia ostensibly to
perform Umrah but media reports said he
actually received medical attention in
Jeddah.
The leakage of that medical
trip drew anger from the president who sacked
Babagana Kingibe who was then secretary to the
federal government soon after his
return from the Jeddah.Kingibe was accused of
rallying support for his presidential ambition
in the face of perceived ill health of
Yar’Adua.
Whether Yar’Adua will in deed
proceed on his trip to Saudi Arabia any time soon
remains to be seen.
