Again, no deal and
strike continues, says Labour ..PENGASSAN shuts down oil
production? Newsdiaryonline Sat Jan
14,2012

Reports from
the Presidential Villa Abuja said the meeting between labour and
government once again failed to produce an agreement.
Abdulwaheed Omar ,NLC President reportedly said the strike
continues on Monday.
Newsdiaryonline source said it was
obvious to labour that little would come out of the meeting
because government was bent on negotiating the pump price with
Labour. However the NEC of NLC and TUC gave their leaders a
mandate not to accept anything more that N65 per litre.
It is appears the strike may be entering a new
phase as a labour source told Newsdiaryonline that PENGASSAN has
shut down oil production already in the aftermath of the failed
talks.'In fact they have shut down oil production 45 minutes
ago',the source said before midnight Jan. 14,2012.But Omar
reportedly said after the meeting at the Villa that oil
production has not been shut down yet.
However Senate President David Mark said negotiation is an on
going process but that remarkably, both sides are 'shifting
ground'.Aminu Tambuwal ,speaker House of Reps said it is not a
deadlock but that the dialogue will continue.
What is clear from the briefings is that there has been no
deal.Peter Esele ,TUC president as well as Omar said
labour will maintain status quo ante. They hinted that they
will meet, perhaps on Sunday with the Organs of
Labour to brief the leaders and decide the next
line of action.
