As the 2011 general election is drawing
nearer and gathering momentum, a
renowned Chartered Accountant and
governorship aspirant under the platform
of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
Osun state, Alhaji lateef Bakare has
urged the politicians in the country to
eschew violence before, during and after
the forthcoming general election in
2011.
Speaking at his official public
declaration of intention to contest
Governorship race in the state held at
Osogbo Township stadium, Osogbo, Alhaji
Bakare stated that the politicians
should preach the gospel of better
tomorrow and violence- free political
engagement and they should not see 2011
electioneering campaign as an avenue to
settle political grudges and making
troubles.
He advised the politicians in the state
to discover the yearnings and
aspirations of the people which is all
round development and they should
endeavour to conduct their activities
with peace, love, dignity, discipline
and respect for others fundamental
rights.
An economist of many years’ experience
turned politician stressed that he was
ready to put forward himself for the
service of the state and also said that
he has discovered that no government can
provide everything needed for the people
of the state.
Bakare said “I am making a promise that
I will run a government that will be a
catalyst through which private
organizations are encouraged to take
part in the task of developing our
state. With this dream, I believe I can
provide the needed leadership to
redesign a future hope for a great
state”.
He pointed out that he has used his
influence to increase the number of the
party members in recent time in the
length and breadth of the state through
the use of different means to woo people
from different parties and a lot of
people who have never been in active
politics are now card caring members of
PDP.
“I promise to do more and ensure that
PDP waxes stronger on daily basis in
Osun State.But I must reiterate here
that in unity lies strength. Abraham
Lincoln that great philosopher and
leader warned several years back that
any house that divides against itself
shall never stand”.Bakare reiterated.
He however pledge that “I am putting
myself for forward for service to this
great state not because I possess a
magic wand but because I believe I have
the astatuteness, the exposure and the
experience of an entrepreneur to utilize
the opportunities of our situation to
advantage. I know how best we can make
our resources work for us. We need to
bake a much bigger cake for the benefit
of all the stakeholders in the state. I
shall bring a lot of creativities and
seriousness into governance shall
develop an effective microeconomic frame
work that will attract investment and
promote economic stability without
forgetting Social Justice”.
