Gov Yakowa
Yet another unfortunate fate
befell the
troubled
Zangon-Kataf
local government area of Kaduna
state as soldiers drafted to
beef up security in
in the area shot and killed a
member of the local vigilante
security group in Anfana
village, about five kilometres
east of Kafanchan, on Monday
night.
Kure
Mallam, district head of Anfana
who gave the hint in a
telephone interview, said that,
“a boy, Gideon Luka, 19, was
shot dead on the spot by
soldiers, at about
11 pm.
“We have been living under
severe threats by gunmen who
have been invading our villages.
“We had no choice than to form
vigilantes to watch over our
villages. Last night (Monday),
soldiers on patrol accosted some
of our vigilante people around
11pm.
“The soldiers opened fire on
them after a small argument,
killing Gideon. Another one is
lying critically wounded at
theSurgical Ward of Kafanchan
General Hospital.
“We have always been under
constant humiliation and
physical abuse by the soldiers.”
Dominic Yahaya, chairman of
Zangon-Kataf Local Government,
also confirmed the killing and
noted
that it might have been a
case of mistaken identity.
In his words, “I was informed
that there was a problem between
our youth in Anfana and some
soldiers.
“Someone told me that it was a
case of mistaken identity
because the soldiers were armed
and had set up a road block in
the area but I am still waiting
for details.”
DSP Aminu Lawan, spokesman at
the Kaduna State Police Command
however said he had not been
briefed as at the time of this
report last evening but he gave
the telephone number of one
Major Fred who Lawan described
as one of the high ranking
officers on duty in that area.
When contacted on telephone,
Major Fred said, “go and talk to
the area Commander in Kafanchan,
I am not the area Commander.
