Embattled member
of the House of Representatives ,Dino Melaye
finally
regained his seat in the National Assembly
today. He reached the National Assembly in
the afternoon and reportedly went in without
any obstruction today.
Deputy Speaker House of
Representatives Usman Nafada
said
Melaye’s return was in line with the court
ruling. Nafada however ordered the House
Committee on Ethics to still
proceed
with its investigations into the crisis
which led to the suspension of Melaye and
others .The committee’s report is expected
next week.
Melaye told journalist
that his travails should be seen as
part
of the battle to right the wrongs in the
society. The battle to build a better Nigeria
must go on , he said.
He led other
progressives who accused
Speaker Dimeji Bankole of
corruption. The attempt to address the issues
led to an embarrassing brawl which finally
resulted in the suspension of at least 11
members of the House of
Representatives.Surprisingly, the corruption
allegationss appear to have been swept under
the carpet ever since.
The Okun -born lawmaker
from Kogi state
regained
his seat a day after he was stopped from
gaining access to the National Assembly on
Tuesday.Melaye equally blocked the entrance
to the National Assembly on Tuesday for
hours. It is believed that the leadership of
the National Assembly soft pedalled because
denying Melaye
and others access to the national
assembly may amount to disobeying a valid
court order.
A court had, a week
earlier annulled the suspension of Melaye
and other progressives, thus paving the way
for his
equally turbulent return to the House
of Representatives.
