The process of selecting the new
Ataoja of osogboland will reach its
climax on Friday 3rd
September,2010 when kingmakers will hold
their final meeting for the selection
of the new successor to the paramount
throne barely a month after the demise
of late Oba Iyiola Oyewale Matanmi
111.But newsdiaryonline.com learned
today that the process is already
being rocked by alleged bribery scandal.
The news of the alleged N10 million
bribe from a chieftain of ruling
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to some
of the kingmakers in order to
favour his anointed candidate filtered
to the town in the early hours of
Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
to the dismay of the generality of the
Community.
The PDP chieftain has been accused of
trying to bring his influence to bear on
the selection process to favour his
candidate’s obaship ambition which
people described as putting mediocrity
in the vacant stool.
We gathered that the PDP chieftain held
the secret meeting with the kingmakers’
yester night around 7.15 P.m at the
instance of a popular artist from the
town, one chietfatin of Osogbo local
Government, his younger brother and a
few other people.
We learnt that the oath was taken after
one of kingmakers distributed the
N10million largesse from at the
residential house of a chief the night.
Newsdiaryonline.com also gathered that
KIA branded car was also distributed to
five kingmakers while three
kingmakers(names withheld) rejected the
illegal Greek gift.
Earlier, the Elders of the Town led by
Chief Omigbodun,Alhaji Ahmed Omidiran
with a host of others had told
Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to keep a
distance from their Obaship matter ;
they warned him against the imposition
of candidate on them. They added that if
Oyinlola tried to impose any candidate
that is not in the interest of the
community, they would bar such person
from the town much less allowing him
near the palace.
Honourable Muraina (Leo) Awoyemi Adejare
who is presently representing the
Olorunda, Osogbo, Orolu and Irepodun at
the lower chamber of National Assembly
hails from Opeleba of Omumuyiwa Ruling
House and he is the most favoured
candidate by the old and young of the
ancient town for the stool because he is
said to be the most qualified candidate
out of 10 people jostling for the stool.
When Newsdiaryonline contacted
an indicted chief for comment on the
allegation on telephone, he said they
did not bribe kingmakers but had only
taken care of them.
All effort to reach the controversial
PDP chieftain on his telephone line
proved abortive as at the time of
filing this report.
Amubieya Dagbandaya's comment:
In the interest of the OrokiOsogbo please the kingmakers should take
a rightful step to choose the candidate to the vacant stool May Almighty guide
you in making the preference that is acceptable and befitting for the vacant stool.
Oshun Osogbo a gbe wa o. My regards.
Lenn amubieya Dagbandaya Oko Kikelomo, Omo Eranko Yayo.
