Former Nigeria's vice president,Atiku Abubakar has
said that there is nothing in the federal
government's white paper on electoral reforms .Atiku
who spoke with airport reporters in Lagos declared
that Nigerians have seen what the government can do
that the PDP government does not have the capacity
and ability to really to push through a real
electoral reform that will satisfy all participants
in the process
''We have seen what the government can do. They
have put out their own white paper, there is nothing
in that white paper . I do not think the PDP
government has the capacity really and the ability
to push through a real electoral reform that will
satisfy all participants in the process. As far as I
am concerned, my priority has always been a better
country'' On the call for the formation of a mega
party, the former vice president said it was a
welcome development as such party will have strong
opposition to compete on a very strong term with the
ruling party.
''It is a welcome development. I believe if you have
one strong opposition party, it will compete on a
very strong terms with the ruling party. There is
need for all progressive elements to come
together under this one mega party so that they can
provide alternative to the conservatives. My
position has always been that we should have
alternative , a strong party , an alternative
to the ruling party''
Atiku explained that his relationship with his
former governors was still cordial
irrespective of their political affiliations. ''They
still remain my friends, whether they are in PDP,
AC, ANPP, or in Labour Party, I still have a
collection of them and I can still call on them to
rally around''.
