RE: MR. PRESIDENT, LET DEMOCRACY PREVAIL
Our attention has been drawn to a full page article purportedly
written by some faceless members of COALITION OF NIGERIA CIVIL
RIGHTS GROUPS on the above subject matter.
It is very interesting albeit worthless for a desperado like
Gov. Timipreye Sylva to hide under the guise of a non-existent
group to cast aspersions on the person of President Goodluck
Jonathan, who has never been known to be associated with
violence.
This macabre dance by the embattled governor has done nothing
but to prove the governor’s critics right as well as kill the
joy of the entire people of the Niger Delta whose cry for
justice for over forty years was answered by divine providence
in bringing one of our own on board as President.
While we do not want to join issues with a man who is known for
his penchant to be arrogant and violent, we are wont to set the
records straight for the benefit of those who do not understand
why change is inevitable in our state.
The governor and his group have failed to show respect for our
son, the number one citizen of our country, as such they have
resorted to cheap blackmail and mudslinging as a means of
attracting sympathy which he does not in any way deserve.
Each time Gov. Sylva is
on a coalition path with the people of the state, he quickly
drags the President into it, all in a bid to be given a soft
landing, after which he will renege on his promise. The
so-called coalition group failed in their article to show case
any concrete achievement by Gov. Sylva that would earn him a
re-election ticket under the banner of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP. Is it not wishful thinking on the part of the
governor and a few of his co-horts to expect that he would be
handed over the flag of the party as its candidate without going
through a primary election?.
It is said that whom the gods want to kill, they first make mad.
This is exactly the scenario here, as Gov. Sylva in his
desperation to continue the impoverishment of the state and its
people, has decided to dance naked in the village square. The
New Bayelsa Initiativeis poised to ensure that the change the
people of Bayelsa deserve is achieved. No amount of character
assassination or blackmail will deter us from restoring the
glory of our dear state which has recently been violated by a
monstrous group. Suffice it to say that Mr. President is the
leader of the party and has the right to choose who becomes the
governor of his state, though he has maintained neutrality on
this issue. The fact remains that Gov. Sylva has lost touch with
the people as he has not been able to provide basic
infrastructure for the people. His transformation agenda is only
on paper as there is absolutely nothing on ground to justify the
huge allocations he has received since four years, as well as
loans collected from the banks and the capital market. It is
also said that those who live in glass houses do not throw
stones. The so-called human rights groups have failed to show
Nigerians and the world that our fundamental human rights is
concomitant to our fundamental human duty. The question that
begs to be answered is, “Has Gov. Sylva performed his own Civil
duty as to attract the sympathy of the Civil Rights Group?” How
is it that the Civil Rights Groups turned a blind eye over the
killings in the state and the stifling of political opponents of
the governor, yet they are quick to discuss political issues?
The faceless group was sincere enough to tell the public of the
over whelming support President Jonathan received prior to his
ascendance to power, though they failed to explain the reasons
for which the president received such tremendous support across
the country. The simple truth is that Mr. President represents a
New Order in Nigerian politics which is devoid of unnecessary
rancour and violence. And this has been the dream of all
Nigerians, both young and old.
For those who accuse the President of abandoning national
assignments for the “Bayelsa 2012 Dream Project”, it is clear
that they expected to reap from the ill-wind and the evil seed
they have sown. They are also part of those who have sponsored
all forms of violence in the country in a bid to disorganize the
President and make him lose focus. All their plans have been
exposed as the security agencies are in touch with the
international community on the happenings in the country. For
Sylva, there is no need crying foul when he has failed to keep
his own side of the bargain. The so-called peace accord which
the writers claim was reached last year and this year was not to
be respected by only one faction in the political camps of the
state. Hiding under the
guise of a peace accord to perpetuate evil in the state is the
most sordid thing to do. The governor and his paid pipers
probably do not understand what a peace accord means, not to
talk of understanding the tenets of the law. Indeed, Sylva is
known to be an uncontrollable locomotive. He is still governor
today because of the law wherein he obtained judgment in his
favour. So why does he not understand that since the Court had
declared that there would not be election in Bayelsa State this
year then any primary election conducted in that regard is null
and void?.
It is also pertinent to draw the attention of the security
agencies on the threat of the so-called coalition of Nigerian
Civil Rights Groups being sponsored by non-other than, Gov. Timi
Sylva. There could be plots by these desperadoes to create an
atmosphere of violence in the state and the entire Niger Delta
as being “envisaged” by the group.
We hereby repeat that no amount of intimidation, blackmail or
political brigandry will stop the people of Bayelsa from
choosing the leader who will RESTORE the state from drifting.
To result to name-calling and casting aspersions on the person
of our son and President, tantamounts to desperation and
rascality. We are now more convinced that power intoxicates!
Let us all rise up to the occasion to ensure that the CHANGE WE
DESERVE comes to our people.
BAYELSA PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN.
Long live Bayelsa State !
Long live Niger Delta!!
Long live Nigeria !!!
