deal with critics of Igbo nominees

Henceforth, hard time awaits groups or persons from Igbo land
who engage in the castigation of ministerial nominees of the
South East extraction, as the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze
Ndigbo, has decided to wield the big stick in this regard.
The organisation made its position known on this, through its
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter Chariman, Chief
Callistus Obi, who addressed newsmen in Abuja over the weekend.
According to him, Ohaneze would adopt traditional sanction
methods against persons or groups that
make moves against any
personality of Igbo extraction nominated by President Goodluck
Jonathan in the forthcoming cabinet.
Chief Obi who was accompanied by other leaders of Ohaneze Ndigbo
in FCT during the briefing, noted that it was wrong for any true
Igbo son or daughter to openly castigate any of the nominees
from the South East, stressing that it was such attitude that
cost the zone the chairmanship of the PDP.
“Rather than lend support to the nominees from our zone, we have
seen some innocuous groups and persons raising protests against
some of the personalities nominated and we say capital no to
such attitude. It is very, very wrong and we shall not
condone such.
“If you remember, why we do not have a National Chairman of the
PDP from our zone is because our own people worked hard to see
that our own people did not occupy the post as at today.
This is too bad and it has jeopardised our collective interest.
“If you recall, President Jonathan has great interest in
reforming the power sector and has seen in Professor Bath Nnaji
a man who can reform that sector and he has nominated him on the
list. We urge the President to crystallize this nomination
as we are confident that he is the man who would help the
President actualize the aspiration. What Prof. Nnaji
achieved in the few period of time he served as Senior Special
Adviser on Power is a clear testimony that he would do a great
job of the sector.
“We appeal to our brothers to adopt the maxim “Oye Aghana Nwanne
Ya”. Ohaneze Ndigbo, FCT chapter supports our brother,
prof. Nnaji because he is tested and disciplined and we know
very well that he is a community man to the core.
“Because of what we have noticed and the pull-him-down syndrome,
we shall adopt a strategy whereby we prescribe punishment to
those who would castigate our nominees, especially using our
age-long traditional methods,” Chief Obi stressed.
