Emphasises Integrity In Public Service

Director-General of the Bureau of Public
Procurement (BPP), Engr. Emeka Ezeh has emphasized the need for
public servants to ensure integrity, good character and
discipline in their attitude to work, noting that personal
progress and accomplishments are largely dependent on these
attributes.
Engr. Ezeh who spoke at the send forth dinner
for a former BPP director, Engr. Nebolisa Emodi who was lately
appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport,
stressed that what
Nigeria presently need is public servants with the right
attitude to work.
“Our work ethic while working for government
should be hinged on good principles”, he said adding that these
good principles revolve around loyalty, commitment and
selflessness. It is these good principles that saw to the
elevation of Engr. Emodi and there is no reason why officers
seeking elevation one way or the other should not emulate him”.
Noting that the new
permanent secretary has all along being a dedicated
driver of the public procurement reform, he reiterated that the
Bureau is determined to ensure transparency, competition and
quality in public expenditure as expected of the Public
Procurement act, 2007 and as it is being canvassed by President
Goodluck Jonathan.
He stressed “though there are challenges
spanning all dimensions but we are carrying on and with the
support of all stakeholders, we shall surely succeed...The
procurement reform is key to any national development, and it is
important that we get the needed moral and financial support
from all and sundry particularly stakeholders for it to be
successful”
In his remarks, Engr. Emodi thanked the DG for
his exemplary leadership of the Bureau which remain an
inspiration as he moves into another government sector. He
promised that the procurement reform principles of transparency,
accountability and quality shall continue to be his watchwords
in the interest of the socio-economic development of the
country.
At the event were a former Head of Service of
the federation, Engr. Ebele Okeke; and a former Special Adviser
to the President on BMPIU, Mr. Tajudeen Oyawoye, amongst other
dignitaries.
