Newsdiaryonline Mon March 14,2011

One of the campaign buses of Ambassador Frank Nchita Ogbuewu the
Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance,
APGA was destroyed on Wednesday, 9th March, 2011 at Amakpu
village in Nsukara, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi
State by a detachment of PDP Youths led by one Hon Kajethan
Nweke, former Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area.

The incident occurred as the campaign bus with its occupants was
coming back to Echara Ukwu from Amokpo where they went to
sensitize the people ahead of their ward rally the next day,
10th March,2011. The PDP Youths numbering about twenty, armed
with dangerous weapons such as AK 47 riffles, machetes, and
axes, accosted them, blocked their way and started beating
the driver and occupants of the party bus.

In the ensuing melee, the driver escaped with the vehicle and
ran into the palace of the traditional ruler of the community,
Ezeogo Cosmas Umanyi to make a report on the situation and for
refuge. Some of the youths led by Hon. Cajethan Nweke and Elijah
Ajiugo, again went after him shooting sporadically into the air
and vandalised the party- branded campaign bus.

No help came the way of the driver and some of his passengers as
members of the family of the traditional ruler took to their
heels to escape the rampaging youths who were beating anybody on
sight. Most of them sustained severe cuts and injuries as a
result of the incident.
However, some of the culprits have been arrested by the police.
Those arrested include: Chinedu Anyigor, Chibueze Alo,
Christopher Oreze and another popularly known as
'Apology'. Their leaders, Hon. Nweke and Ajiugo were said to be
still at large.
The traditional ruler according to reports has fled his palace
for fear of attack. The spate of attacks on members of the
opposition has been on the rise in the State in recent times.
Members of APGA have been attacked on several occassions while
on campaign. Just last month, a rally of the party was dispersed
by some PDP youths led by a member of the State Assembly in
Edda, Afikpo South. The youths made a bonfire of the canopies
hired and over 200 plastic seats including a Public Address
System.
Till now no arrests have been made by the Police who only said
that the culprits ran into the bush on sighting their van and
that they have commenced investgation on the matter.
It will also be recalled that the All Nigeria Peoples Party,
ANPP in the State suffered the same fate and had its campaign
vehicle also vandalised by some PDP youths.
