Court remands ten persons for alleged murder in Osun

An Osogbo Magistrate
court division presided over by Chief Magistrate Akinwumi
Makanjuola has ordered the two accused persons standing trial
before it over alleged killing of Mojeed Raheem during a protest
against the removal of oil subsidy by the federal government in
Osogbo, Osun state capital to be remanded in Ilesa prison
custody today.
The names of the accused
persons are, Lawrence Dada aka “The Law” and Tunde Ajiboye;
The two suspects were
alleged to have conspired together to commit felony and murdered
one Mojeed Raheem on 9th January, 2012 at about 2.45 pm at
Jaleyemi area in Osogbo.
The cases were however
adjourned till 21st February, 2011 for mention.
The Police prosecutor,
Sergeant Elisha Olusegun arraigned the duo before the court on a
three count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The two accused persons
were also accused of inflicting serious injury on one Alhaji
Fatai Akanbi with cutlass on his right hand at Jaleyemi area of
Osogbo.
Similarly, Adeyemi
Joel, Ajibade Adeoye, Omowore Adesoji, Adeniyi Yinka, Johnson
Oduyemi and Oduyemi Yinka who were alleged to have murdered one
Komolafe James at Jagun farm in Ifewara via Ilesa and Akinlalu
junction in Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government Area of the
state were also arraigned before the court.
The Police prosecutor,
Sergeant Olusegun told the court that all the eight accused
persons had committed an offence contrary to and punishable
under section 319 (1) and section 316 (2) of the criminal code
cap 34 Vol 11 laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2004.
Efforts by the Defense
Counsel, Mr. Taiwo Awokunle to apply for the bail of his clients
met brick wall as the trial Magistrate insisted that the court
lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
Magistrate Makanjuola
there after ordered the eight accused persons to be remanded in
Ilesa prison custody pending further advice from the Director of
Public Prosecution on the matter.
