Bayelsa Vindicates CPC’s Court Action
Press statement    Mon  Nov 21,2011

Sylva

No matter how much they try, PDP and the Presidency cannot succeed in portraying to Nigerians and the world that what is going on in the Bayelsa Governorship ticket is an internal affairs of the party. It is not! It is the infringement on fundamental right of a citizen; it is the subversion of law, guidelines and procedure; it is a disregard for the Court of Law; it is an imposition of vested interest over public
interest – all of which constitute an affront to our democracy as a nation and our civil liberty as a people.

In an unholy alliance determined to impose its will on the people of Bayelsa state, the PDP breached the right of the unwanted from contesting and thus cleared the way for the anointed, while the
Presidency made sure that the people are intimidated by the coercive state forces into submission to his will by deploying massive air and ground Armed Forces, Helicopter Gunships, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), 15,000 Policemen, armed Men of the SSS, etc. This has always being CPC’s position on the PDP and the Presidency on matters of elections. It is the contention of the CPC that what we are seeing in Bayelsa today, the home state of the President, is a miniature of what
transpired at the April 16th Presidential election across most states of the federation in which the election was massively rigged for PDP.
The same Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Inspector General of Police, National Security Adviser and Director-General of the State Security Service that have supervised this assault on Bayelsa state were the same officers who superintended over the April polls. It is also a mini rehearsal of what to expect in the 2012 gubernatorial elections in the 5 states and the 2012 Presidential election if the Supreme Court upturns the judgment of the Appeal Court as prayed in the CPC’s appeal.

There can be no elections in militarized zones. While our party awaits the outcome of our appeal to the Supreme Court on our Presidential Elections Petition, CPC is calling on Mr. President to stop
militarizing states during elections in the guise of security. He must therefore withdraw forthwith all the deployed security forces in Bayelsa and allow a whiff of fresh air to blow over the traumatized
citizens of the oil-rich state.

What is happening in Bayelsa state is akin to a mother (PDP) maltreating her child (Sylva). Therefore only God Almighty can save the children (Nigerians) of her late mate under her care.

CPC believes that our democracy is still too fragile for these heavy bouts and blows being given to the system by the unholy alliance of the PDP and the Presidency. CPC stands for progress, democracy, human rights and justice. As an innocent victim of fascism, CPC is sympathetic to Governor Timipre Sylva and all other victims of PDP’s and the President’s injustice. Our party’s doors are wide open to all. We are willing to give every Nigerian a sanctuary against injustice and victimization by the state.

For the CPC, the current unfolding drama in Bayelsa state will serve as another litmus test for the independence or otherwise of the Nigerian Judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
