Nigerian protesters
Authorities in Abuja have begun a
crackdown on anti fuel subsidy removal protesters who gathered
at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nation’s capital.Kayode
Ogundamisi reported
this evening on his facebook page that “Police have arrested
Martins Obono, and Eze Nwargwu. The two are leaders of the Youth
Alliance Against Petroleum Subsidy Removal. The police has
reportedly detained them at the Anti-Robbery squad unit in Garki,
Abuja where they are locked up with hardened criminals.”
The protest in Abuja began rather slowly
but the arrival of
topnotchers like ex Minister Nasir EL Rufai and former
Lawmaker Dino Melaye gave fillip to the protest.Omojuwa and
Lady_deelicious had tweeted their arrival
earlier. After some encounters with the police it appears
the official demeanour towards the protesters changed towards a
crackdown, a development that may further worsen the security
situation in the country henceforth if clashes between
protesters and the police become the order of the day.
Ogundamisi
reported that :”GEJ
ORDERS CRACKDOWN ON ANTI FUEL SUBSIDY PROTESTERS NATIONWIDE! The
police anti-terror team in Abuja has begun a crackdown on young
activists involved in organizing a series anti-fuel hike
protests today in Abuja. Police have arrested Martins Obono, and
Eze Nwargwu. The two are leaders of the Youth Alliance Against
Petroleum Subsidy Removal. The police has reportedly detained
them at the Anti-Robbery squad unit in Garki, Abuja where they
are locked up with hardened criminals.”
The crackdown came amid reports of anti
fuel subsidy removal protests in some parts of Lagos, Zamfara,Ilorin
and Kano.A tweet this evening on @Ngerianewsdesk said “Youths
today took to the streets in Kano to stage a peaceful
demonstration in protest against the federal govt's removal of
fuel subsidy”
Samuel Temidayo Adanlawo wrote on facebook this
evening that, “Latest report from Ibadan indicated d(the ) nnpc

to sell fuel @#65.”NLC and TUC had urged Nigerians to enforce
