An explosion which occurred at a mosque in Delta State during the early hours of Saturday left several people injured.

According to speculations, a bomb exploded during a worship service at a mosque in the Niger Delta region, throwing worshippers into pandemonium.

Charles Muka, the State Police Spokesperson who confirmed the incident in Sapele, however dismissed the speculations, saying instead that it was likely to be an "internal fire incident".

He further stated that contrary to reports that many were injured in the explosion, only one person sustained injuries and no death was recorded.

Muka stated emphatically that there were no traces of a bomb at the site of the explosion.
