The PDP led federal government has shed
more light into an
ongoing road project in Benin City the Edo state capital.A
statement from the office of the minister of works today
acknowledged the existence of a lingering controversy over
“the ownership of the ongoing road project along Dawson
road in Benin city”.
Shedding light on the project,Tony Ikpasaja
special assistant to the minister of works
said
“the attention of the
federal ministry of works has been drawn to the controversy
sorrounding the ownership of the ongoing road project along
Dawson road in Benin city. For the avoidance of doubt, the
federal ministry of works states categorically that the road
belongs to the federal government and its being reconstructed by
the federal ministry of works, as part of the ongoing contract
for the reconstruction of the Benin-Ore-Shagamu express road,
which starts from the junction of Dawson road with Akpakpava
road and goes all the way through Uselu and Ugbowo up to Ofosu,
Ore, ijebu Ode and Shagamu.”
The statement added “the Edo state
government only used a part of the road's Shoulders for its
drainage construction and a walk way atop the drainage line”.
Ikpasaja concluded that “this clarification has become necessary
to put the records straight”.The minister of works is also from
Edo state.
This statement may just be part of the
battle to win the hearts and minds of Edo people as the
governorship election is expected next year.PDP lost its hold on
Edo after the Court of Appeal ruled that Adams Oshiomhole of
Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN was the duly elected governor.
And so far, observers said Oshiomhole’s
massive construction
projects across the
state have made a remarkable difference thus giving the PDP
cause
for concern.This
statement today is
obviously meant to assure Edo people that the PDP federal
government has also been part of the work in progress in the
state.
