To solve the perennial water shortage in Edo Central and other parts of the state, Edo State Government has commissioned two brand new Dandodrilling rigs and other accessories for the sinking of boreholes at Ekpoma in Esan West and Uzairue in  Etsako West Local Government Areas of the State.

The State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who commissioned the drilling rigs said the very least any respected government is expected to do is to provide clean portable water for its citizens.

According to him,  “the very least any responsible government is expected to do is to provide for the comfort and well being of its citizenry including the provision of clean water  regardless of the poverty level of these communities”.

He noted that the rigs which has the capacity to drill up to 1,100 meters can reach the water table in the most difficult terrain in the state. 

Comrade Oshiomhole noted that in the Action Congress of Nigeria, power must return to the people, adding that never again shall the people be held captive by any godfather.

He noted that “politicians who want power must respect the people adding that in a democracy, if the people are like dwarfs whoever wishes to be a king must go to the level of the dwarf or otherwise he would not be crowned”.

The Comrade Governor charged the person that as the 2011 election draws nearer, they should choose leaders that will be accountable to them.

“The beauty of whatever we are doing today is to recognize that our political future is in the hands of our people and not in the hands of any godfather. If our people are happy, we are happy and if they are not happy, we are not happy. I ask you to be ready to defend your rights. The days are over when the Nigerian people are taken for granted”, he said.

The Governor assured that the rigs would go round the entire state to ensure that water flows everywhere.The Ogbido community in an address presented by Mr. Amedu Dirisu Oshioke commended the Comrade Governor for the developmental strides achieved in two years.

“The Ogbido community is proud to identify with you and the government of Edo state because in the history of the mid west region, which metamorphosed into Bendel state and now Edo state, no government has achieved close to what you have achieved in two years”, he noted
