Amidst anger, wailing and rain of curses,
Chief Adeleye Awolumate,Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) chairman for Osun Ward in Moba
Local Government area of Ekiti State, who
was among the victims of the reign of terror
unleashed on the State on Thursday, November
15, 2010 by
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) was buried
on Saturday. Awolumate died at the Federal
Medical Centre (FMC), Ido-Ekiti last Sunday
as a result of the machete cuts inflicted on
him by the ACN thugs that invaded towns and
villages in Ekiti State on Thursday,
November 15.
The deceased, who was badly injured, was
rushed to the FMC, Ido-Ekiti where he died
after spirited battle to save his life by
doctors in the hospital.
Wives of the slain PDP chieftain,
Dele and Dupe Awolumate, who wept
uncontrollably openly rained curses on the
killers of their husband,
saying; “God will punish those who killed
our husband. As they have
turned us to widows, God will also make
their wives too widows
and
their
children fatherless overnight.”
In his sermon at the graveside of 49
year-old Chief Awolumate, a
Catholic Cleric, M. A. Olanrewaju said
families, friends and political
associates of the deceased should not avenge
the gruesome murder,
imploring them to leave vengeance for
God.“God is the supreme judge in all human
endeavours and in this case, He is sure
going to judge the killers of Adeleye
Awolumate in His own way,” he said.
Addressing sympathisers after the burial,
former governor of Ekiti State, Chief
Olusegun Oni, who was moved to tears
appealed for calm, saying the law
enforcement agents, would see to it that
those found culpable in the murder of the
deceased are brought to book.
The former governor, who also gave an
undisclosed amount of money to the deceased
family to take care of their immediate
expenses promised to provide assistance for
the family.
“We were in government here for three and
half years, we did not kill anybody. We did
not even sponsor attack on anyone. But in
just one month of their government, we have
witnessed gruesome murders of innocent Ekiti
indigenes, whose only offence was that they
do not belong to their party.
“What we are witnessing in Ekiti now is a
result of power getting to the hands of
cowards because when you give power to a
coward, he uses it first on his immediate
environment.
“But I want to plead with all of you here
not to revenge the murder of Chief Adeleye
Awolumate. Please, leave revenge for God.
“Besides, those who killed Awolumate are not
indigenes of Osun-Ekiti here. If you now
chose to attack perceived ACN members, who
are your kinsmen, you will be compounding
the problems of Osun-Ekiti. If you burn
houses here, you will only burn houses
belonging to Osun indigenes and not those of
the people, who killed Awolumate. Or is
Mentillo, Niyi Adedipe, Taju, Jarule and
others from Osun-Ekiti?
“So, please do not attack anyone. Allow God
and the law enforcement agents to intervene
and I am sure that whoever takes joy in
spilling the blood of innocent Ekiti people
will one day face the wrath of God .Those
who believed that they have hurt us, God
will hurt them too,”Oni said.
Also speaking, State Chairman of the PDP,
Chief Bola Olu-Ojo promised that the party
would do all that it could do to make sure
that the children and wives left behind by
the murdered ward chairman do not
suffer.
Olu-Ojo announced that a chieftain of the
PDP, Otunba Jimoh Adedayo had offered to
take over the sponsorship of Helen Awolumate,
who is undergoing a National Certificate of
Education (NCE) course while Northern
Senatorial Chairman of the party, Chief
Tunde Adetifa also offered to the education
of Taiwo, another of the deceased children,
who is in Senior Secondary School.
The State Chairman also disclosed that
Senator Ayo Arise, representing Ekiti North
Senatorial District had donated a sum of N.5
million for the family upkeep.
During a visit to the palace of Owa of
Osun-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adeleke Adeleye, the
monarch, who described late Awolumate as one
of his senior chiefs thanked the former
governor, PDP leaders and supporters for
sharing in their moment of grief.
He described the murder of Awolumate as a
great loss to the town, pleading that the
party should not allow the deceased family
to suffer.

Ekiti:30
day reign of Illegalities and Terror
Soji Olatunde
Since the inauguration of Dr Kayode
Fayemi
as Governor of Ekiti State, through
what some analysts believe was a judicial
coup against popular votes, those who
expected a robust and people driven
governance are now in a
quandary .This relates to the
preparedness of
the governor to follow the
precepts of the rule of law , the
platform that brought him to power.
Questions are being asked whether the
new Governor whose only work experience is
managing an NGO and sundry
ad-hoc lecturing engagements is
prepared for the onerous task of managing a
complex political system like Ekiti state.
In 30 days, rather than busy himself in
studying the files and the gangatuan people
oriented ideas and programmes left by his
predecessor Engr Segun Oni in various stages
of completion, Fayemi had busied himself
with mundane shadow chasing and
illegalities. First was whether to remove
photo portraits of his predecessor the
gentleman Segun Oni, or whether to reverse
the appointments of permanent secretaries or
not. He was announcing the debt portfolio he
met
on ground not the billions of credit
in the account of the state.
More
profound
however was the illegal dissolution
of local governments
within two weeks in office against
the constitutional provisions which
guarantees the tenure of democratically
elected local council officials. The tenure
of the local government officials
was
to expire in 2011 having won their election
in 2009.
This was against the background of a
pendency of a court action in place. The
High court in adjourning the case filed by
the elected local government officials to
December1,2010 warned all the parties to
maintain status quo and in addition warned
the state governor not to constitute
Caretaker
committees. At this time also he had not
gotten the House of Assembly
backing
as they were mourning their deceased Deputy
speaker By
the existing Local Government Administration
law 2001, The dissolution must be supported
by 2/3 majority of members of the House of
Assembly. Effectively, the Governor needed
18 members of the 26 member house. His party
A C N had 12 members in the House while the
PDP had 13 members including the Speaker.
The new Governor has left no one in doubt
that he is yet to know the difference
between activism
and Governance. So breaking all rules
of parliamentary procedures , he moved his
12 members into the house and without the
Speaker, the Deputy speaker, leader of
business in the House,
and on a non plenary day got them to
approve
the dissolution, and also to approve
the composition of the caretaker committees
in the 16 local governments. In breach of
all legal procedures.
The Governor also inaugurated the
chairmen same day amid protests and
recriminations from all democratic conscious
Nigerians who were alarmed at the
brazen onslaught of
the constitution.
Now not done with this , the
Governor has gone ahead to unleash
terror and destruction on the defenceless
elected local government officials who being
unlawfully removed had gone to their duty
posts. ThePolice who had earlier warned all
sides to steer clear of the council
secretatiat
turned around later under heavy
inducement from the government and escorted
the illegal caretaker committees to the
councils. In the process, several deaths
have been recorded
apart from,
broken
limps, bruised heads
and destroyed buildings and vehicles
to show for the reign of terror unleashed
presently in Ekiti, Inside government
sources have revealed that the state police
command was mobilized with 50 millon naira
by FAYEMI TO
CHANGE THE TIDE OF BREACHING THE
EXPRESS DIRECTIVE OF THE IG POLICE ,Haafiz
Ringim who is said to be highly embarrassed
by the actions of the Commissioner of
Police, C. Kaatso. The already compromised
commissioner was said to have told his angry
boss that he was unable to restrain the
Governor who was allegedly physically
forcing his way into the council
secretariat.
However this was an apparent face saving
lie. While Fayemi accompanied by his SSG
Alhaji Gani Owolabi physically forced his
way into Oye local government, he merely
empowered
a team of his aides led by a deserter
in the SSS, named Deji Adesokan, who was
accompanied with
the chairman of OPC
Fasheun
Faction, NIYI Adedipe, and his thugs, the
Chairman of Road transport employers ,
Rotimi Mentilo and other sundry thugs
mobilized from Lagos .They were armed with
all sorts of dangerous weapons ,guns ,matchete,
and axes and attacked all the PDP men
and women in sight. They have continued by
moving into houses of
PDP
chieftains ,killing and maiming any one
suspected to have close links with PDP
personalities. The police is presently
acting as a by stander despite clear
instruction said to have emanated from the
Preidency to close down the secretariats .
In the face of the mayhem, the AC leadership
and Government have given the impression
that all was well. In the press statement
issued by the
Press aide to the Governor ,Mojeed
Jamiu, the Government said all was calm and
that no one had been killed or
maimed or attacked.
However,In a petition to the
Inspector General Of Police, the Chairman of
the PDP in the state Chief Bola Olu ojo
detailed the 30 day long
infractions on the rule of law by the
Fayemi regime.
Titled
Report on destruction of lives and
properties in Ekiti state by Governor Fayemi
,A C N
and their thugs, Bola Ojo listed
local government by local government details
of the destruction, names and pictures of
the victims of the on going attacks
by the Government concluding that
unless the Police rose to the occasion , the
people might resort to self help.
Bola Olu ojo stated inter alia “Suddenly
at about midday,we had a report that
the
State Police Rapid Resp onse Squad
members started assisting the
Action Congress of Nigeria members to
enter the Secretariats. In some cases with
sporadic gun shots and tear gassing, they
forcefully entered the Local Government and
inaugurated the illegal A C N Caretaker

escort of the policemen.
Several newspapers reported this
development.

The active support of the Police
for the A C N members emboldened them
to start attacking the PDP members,
Secretariats and properties, a development
that has continued as at the time of this
report.
Contrary to the statement of Mr Jide

peaceful during the crisis, we restate that
the statement was false and a ploy to cover
up the atrocities of his Governor, his party
and their thugs.
Some verifiable cases are reported below.

unfortunately is a throw back to the period
of the Fayose administration, an egregarious
politician who has teamed up with the
present regime.
An alarmed Ado Ekiti resident Chief Ade Dada

judicial
imposition and indiscretion on the

Said
he;’’Engr Oni was running this state

REPORT OF THE
DESTRUCTION

THE
STATE GOVERNMENT OF DR KAYODE FAYEMI

2010.
Kindly recollect sir that the Governor of
Ekiti state Dr. Kayode Fayemi
illegally
dissolved the elected Local
Government Councils in Ekiti despite the
pendency of a court process. In
furtherance of this illegality, the
Governor got
the 10 A C N members of the House of
Assembly
to illegally pass the dissolution and
constituted Caretaker Committees and
sworn-in
the Chairmen of the Committees as against
the 2/3 majority of the House stipulated by
the Local Government law.
We held a press Conference where we
catalogued the various illegal and
unconstitutional actions of Dr. Kayode
Fayemi and advised the democratically
elected Chairmen and Councillors to go to
their various offices in the Local
Governments as they have not been removed
lawfully.
Thereafter we held meetings with the
security agencies where it was agreed that
none of the two parties ( PDP and A C N)
will be allowed to enter the Council
Secretariats. We were also reliably informed
that the IGP gave a directive to the State
Police on this issue.
Before 10 am
on that day, there were reports that
no party was allowed to enter the
secretariats and the two sides were
peacefully singing on their sides of the
roads.

These and others
mentioned in this report, are the
ringleaders who led
A C
N members and other thugs in all the local
Governments and are
still harassing and intimidating our
leaders and youths who were under our strict
directives not to embark on reprisal, in
order to avoid further bloodshed and chaos.
OUR PRAYERS
1.
We therefore reiterate our call on the
Police authorities to investigate the breach
of the agreement with the police
and
flouting of the order of IGP not to allow
any of the parties to gain access to the LG
secretariats to forestall breakdown of law
and order. It was this breach and connivance
of the Police that led to the loss of lives,
destruction, injuries and attendant tension
in Ekiti.
2.
We call on the IG to order the arrest and
prosecution of those
mentioned
in the mayhem and destruction
as
identified above, as only this will curb
further threat to lives and properties. This
will also ensure that our law abiding
members do not resort to SELF HELP in face
of further intimidation and continued
harassment.
3.
To maintain law and order, the Local Govt.
