First of all, I believe that a university should be an institution committed to quality, to integrity, and to services where the success of students as individuals is paramount.. But I think that lots of staff of Enugu State University of Science and Technology believe that a university is an organization where students’ academic headways are messed around by individuals . A large amount of students at this institution have been denied graduation and many graduated with uncomfortable results.

Why should lots of Enugu State University students always have missing results every academic semester? Can the Honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwo, pay an unscheduled visit to the Enugu State University of Science and technology? Indeed, the academic life in Enugu State University of Science and Technology is very strange that lots of the staff of the institution are very arrogant to students, the bureaucracy is very inefficient, and a large number of students are at the higher chances of developing psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety and anger.

Many staff of this institution hardly cooperates fine with the students in respect of counseling, teaching, greetings and responding to questions; many a time, they are not willing to apologize for any mistake made to the students. This is a sign of selfishness and arrogance in our society today.

In Enugu State University of Science and Technology, most times, students’ results are released very late because it takes the academic staff of the university at least eight good months to submit grades to the departments and to the office of registrar for the exams and records. Also for the office of registrar for the exams and records department of this university to process and to transfer academic transcripts to another institutions takes more than one year. For example, in the year 2004, a friend of mine applied for his academic transcript at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, but it was only processed and transferred to World Education Services in New York of the United States in 2007.This is to tell that the management and administration of Enugu State University of Science and Technology is inefficient.

Notwithstanding, the College of Medicine of Enugu State University of science and technology was established in the year 1996. In November 2007, I read from the Nigerian world newspapers that this college of medicine has not yet been accredited because of insufficient medical facilities. As a result of this, some medical students of the particular university transferred to other accredited colleges of medicine to round off their medical programs. The issue of not accrediting the college of medicine was expected to be resolved between 2003 and 2007 during the second tenure of ex-governor of Enugu State of Nigeria, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, but no accreditation took place .

In 1997, lots of the Agricultural Engineering Students of Enugu State University of science and technology wanted to change to different departments at the faculty of engineering, but only few students’ change of course applications were approved; the rest of students were sad , angry and even frustrated academically because of failure of changing to new departments .

Between 1998 and 2001, it was very hard to get nice grades in Computer Science and Engineering department of Enugu State University of Nigeria. Lots of students of the computer engineering department studied very hard but unfortunately few of them graduated with nice grades; many graduated with uncomfortable grades, such as “Third Class and Passes”; lots of final students of the department did not scale through in 2001..

On the basis of the facts above, these critical academic circumstances in Enugu State University of Science and Technology have lots of negative impacts, such as depression, anger, anxiety which affect the students’ progress in the future.

In conclusion, I believe that Enugu State University of Science and Technology is a “circuit”, where many “centripetal forces and centrifugal forces” are at work. I would like every student or graduate to bear with Enugu State University of Science and Technology for any inconveniences caused by the school authority. How I wish the current Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, and his Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Ndidi Chukwu, would do something about the issues going on in Enugu State University of Science and Technology
