Actors. Musicians Set For Christy Essien Challenge

With the official release of the team lists from both sides, all
is now set for the celebrities' soccer encounter between
Nigerian movie actors and musicians scheduled for September 3 to
flag off of activities for the burial of late songstress,
Christy Essien Igbokwe.
With Segun Arinze, president of the Actors Guild, standing as
captain, Nollywood's Team Manager Abubakar Yakubu has named
several top class actors as part of the squad. The list includes
former AGN president Ejike Asiegbu, Kanayo O. Kansyo, Fred Amata,
Ramsey Noah, Desmond Elliot, Don Pedro Obaseki, Tariah Basorge
Jr and Frank Dallas. Others are Nonso Diobi, Yemi Blaq, Charles
Abazie, Rykardo Agbor, Charles Inojie, Emeka Enyiocha, Femi
Ogedengbe, Ejike Metuselah and Frank Otakponwen.
Top on the list for the music stars are captain Baba Dee,
African China, Terry G, Zakky Azay, Sound Sultan, OJB Jezreel,
Jaywon and General Pype. The musicians' squad also has Minjin,
Suspect, Solid Star, Harrysong.
LKT, Mr. Kool and Ikechukwu and city rave GT the
Guiterman.
Member of the organising committee, ex-PMAN president Tony
Okoroji, was all excitement when he told journalists that Lagos
Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), has approved the use of
the prestigious Teslim Balogun Stadium in contribution to the
success of the event which will also see entertaiment
journalists trade tackles with sports journalists in an opening
game.
To add value to the contests the organisers revealed further
that Akwa Ibom
governor, Godswill Akpabio, has donated a trophy for the actors
and musicians to fight for while former Delta commissioner for
sports and chairman of the Christy Essien Burial Committee,
Austin Izagbo, will also present another trophy for the
entertainment and sports writers to play for.
According to Tony Okoroji, the novelty games have been designed
to provide all Nigerians the opportunity to pay their last
respects to Christy Essien in a more accessible public
place.
"Christy Essien was the queen of songs and a natiobal asset. We
therefore want to give her a state burial as a national queen.
The football is a more public event to accommodate everybody.
Other events will take place at The Colliseum, at the National
Theatre and at the church," Okoroji explained.
