Failed arrest saga:Rivers Group Tackles EFCC
By Alabo Sotonye Danagogo and Ejike Umunna Amadi      Newsdiaryonline Sat Sep 4,2010

The Rivers Vanguard for Good Governance RIVGGAN, has condemned the recent statement credited to the spokesperson of the EFCC Mr. Femi Babafemi, who in a chat with newsmen said that some Commissioners and Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State have underground to evade arrest.

We wish to state that the EFCC erred in its approach as there was no formal invitation sent to the affected government officials.

The Rivers Vanguard is calling on the Chairman of the Commission, Farida Waziri to avoid acts that could lead to a breakdown of law and order, as it is a known fact that those engaged in the criminal act of kidnap do sometimes attack their victims under camouflage that they are security agencies.

The body will not tolerate any further harassment of the state by enemies of our people. The Rule of Law must be respected.

The action of the anti-graft body is tantamount to the actions of political enemies of the government in the state. The Commission should desist from being used as a willing tool in the hands of desperate politicians.

The government in the state apart from being focused, does not have anything to hide, as such would make itself available for scrutiny within the ambits of the law.

We are also aware that the EFCC has been protective of some politicians whose case files are still pending for years.

There is also a High Court order restraining the body from investigating, harassing or arresting any official of the Rivers State Government. We make bold to ask if the order has been vacated, and if not, why?

The Commission should lead by example by functioning under the law rather than flouting court orders.
