.....ASUP
members set to storm Osun on
Monday for Protest over
non-implementation of salary structure*
...lecturers ignore Oyinlola’s directive
The feud between Prince Olagunsoye
Oyinlola led Osun state
government has take a new
dimension as National Body of the
Academic staff
union of polytechnics, (ASUP) on
thursday vowed to storm Osun State
next week in
protest of non implementation of (CONPCASS)
consolidated Polytechnic and
Colleges of Education Academic staff
salary structures by the state
Government.
Speaking with Journalists at a press
conference in Osogbo,the ASUP South
West zonal C coordinator,
Comrade(Engineer) Gbenga Ekundayo said
that seven
days ultimatum would be given to the
state Governor, Prince Olagunsoye
Oyinlola to address the issue, but if he
failed, the body will march through
the street of Osogbo to press home their
demands *
*Comrade Ekundayo decried the attitudes
of Osun State Government under the
headship of Oyinlola on
Non-implementation of consolidated
Tertiary
institutions salary structure (CONTISS)
since January 1, 2007 which has been
implemented through out the country by
other states Government. *
*He stressed that since the industrial
action began, the executive arm of
Government had not made any move to
resolve the issue raised by the
striking lecturers in the state.*
*He noted that the attitude of the state
Government was very unfortunate
that the Government apart from stopping
the salaries of workers when
negotiation had not collapsed had
equally threatened the lecturers to sign
attendance register if they want to
remain in the Government employment.*
*He equally observed that the tertiary
institutions in the State are not
granted full autonomy as applicable to
higher institutions of learning in
the country*
*The ASUP Zonal boss stressed that
reversion of officers from level 15 to
level 14 at the point of retirement was
not acceptable to the lecturers at
all.He affirmed that the industrial
action embarked upon by all the Academic
staff is still on in total and complete
from, as directed by the congress in
various institutions recently.*
Comrade
Ekundayo condemned in strong terms that
the issue of register for
members to sign ,....adding that all
members should stay away completely from
affected campuses and await further
directive from the leadership of the
body.
*But it would be recalled that on Monday
August 2, 2010, Governor Oyinlola at a
meeting with the governing council
chairmen and management of the affected
institutions gave directive that any
lecturers who are interested in his or
her own job should resume for the work
and sign at the office of each
registrar between Tuesday 3rd and Friday
6th of August,2010 and any erring
personnel who failed to comply with the
directive should count himself or
herself voluntarily withdrawn from the
service of state government. *
*The National body however demanded that
the under funding of the State
owned institutions should be looked
into, while subvention should be made
available for capital projects.*
*He said other issues include provision
of modern facilities, maintenance of
available infrastructural facilities,
extension of fringe benefits and
approval of 65years retirement age for
academics.*
*It would be recalled that Osun State
owned tertiary institutions embarked
on strike about two months ago to press
home their demands.
