As part of activities marking the
country’s golden jubilee anniversary,
the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has
appealed to Nigerians to accept all the
three denominations which are now in
circulation in the country for exchange
of goods and services as they are all
legal tender.
Launching the #50 commemorative note to
mark the 50th independence Anniversary
of Nigeria in Osogbo, the controller of
CBN in Osun State, Mr. Oyibo Atteh said
that all the three sets of #50
denomination notes including the old
note, the polymer note and the new
commemorative note are all legal tender
in the country as long as they have
security lines provided by the CBN.
He said that the new N50 commemorative
notes has the independence anniversary
logo in addition to all security
provided by the CBN, said he “the CBN is
the only authority to issue Bank notes”
adding ”it is illegal and unlawful for
anybody to reject any note issued by the
CBN”.
He however appealed to the people to
accept all the notes for legal
transactions. He also advised commercial
banks to issue the new notes to
customers immediately so that the notes
would be in circulation and appealed
to
the people to go to banks to exchange
the new notes
