Re-election Campaign:TUC’s Goodwill message to Amaechi

On behalf of my colleagues in the Trade Union Congress of
Nigeria (TUC) Rivers State
Council and indeed the workers of Rivers State, I wish to
express our Solidarity
to Our Comrade Governor, His Excellency Rt.Hon. Chibuike Rotimi
Amaechi. Many may
wonder, why is our Governor being addressed as Comrade
Governor? Is he Comrade
Adams Oshiomhole? The truth is that Rt.Hon. Chibuike
Rotimi Amaechi is a
Comrade. His record as a former President of the National
Union of Rivers State
Students (NURSS) and as one of the past leaders of the
National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) is there for all to see.
Moreover , he has demonstrated his commitment to the ideals of
comradeship by his
unwavering determination to build a new Rivers State for all. A
new Rivers State where
not just the child of the rich but also the child of the poor
can have access to
quality education. A new Rivers State where people can walk on
dignifying pedestrian
walk-ways . A new Rivers State where those in rural areas
can have access to
dignifying health centres. A new Rivers State with countless
numbers of roads not
just in the urban areas but also in the rural areas. A new
Rivers State where the
streets of Port Harcourt from Rumuola, Elekahia, Trans
Amadi/Slaughter, NTA/Choba,
Rukpakwulusi/Eligbolo, Eleme Junction, Eliozu, Old
Aba road etc all wear
great new looks.
Permit me to state that my members and indeed the workers of
Rivers State have not
asked me to campaign for the Governor; and so I would not go
beyond my mandate. They
have however asked me to thank Our Comrade Governor,His
Excellency Rt.Hon.Chibuike
Rotimi Amaechi for being a Comrade at heart -not just as a
Student Union leader but
also as a Governor and for bringing development to
Rivers State in an
unprecedented manner .They have asked me to express our
solidarity to one of our
own and to state that he can always count on our
solidarity support!
Our Comrade Governor Sir, my members also asked me to thank you
for your immense support
to the Port Harcourt International Airport. They are grateful to
your administration for
the provision of fire-fighting vehicles without
which the airport (with
its huge economic benefits to the entire south-south region)
would NOT have met the
International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standard and
would have lost its
international status for inability to handle emergencies.
They also asked me to
thank you and the Federal government for the success of
the amnesty programme
and the return of peace to Rivers State and Niger Delta.
They however ask that the post amnesty programme should not be
neglected.
Our Comrade Governor Sir, I was part of the PENGASSAN delegation
that met with you at the
height of the insecurity in the State and appreciate the
spirited efforts of your
administration to assure security of lives and property in the
state. The TUC and her
affiliates; and indeed the workers in Rivers State, are
happy that peace and
normalcy have returned to Rivers State and would like to use
this opportunity to thank you once again and to ask those
companies and investors that relocated from Rivers State because
of the security crises to comeback.
These companies have an important role to play in sustaining and
improving on the peace
in Rivers State, as their return will create opportunities for
employment, economic empowerment and on the job training for the
teeming youths and the repentant militants. It will also boost
the internally generated
revenue of the state and encourage the Rivers state
government to take-on
more people oriented projects.
Our Comrade Governor Sir, time and space would not allow me to
mention one by one what
the workers of Rivers State have asked me to thank you for. Let
me therefore on their
behalf state that the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC)
and indeed the workers
of Rivers state identify with your various people
oriented projects. Just
last week we launched our website www.tucrivers.org
,which we heartily
request Our Comrade Governor to officially unveil on March 25
2011.Permit me to
reproduce what one Daniels , one of the visitors to the
website said two days
ago about your administration in our web poll section- “I
may not be an indigene
and may not understand the mechanics of the State but I
have eyes to see. The
state government has proved beyond doubt that there should
be a second tenure”.
Finally ,we commend in very glowing terms the courage and
vision of our dear Comrade
Governor; and earnestly look forward to another four years of
your visionary
leadership as the Executive Governor of Rivers State.
