 Update
Arms Importation:A Governor and what Quest for Power Causes
By Cecilia Ekong       Newsdiaryonline       Sat Dec 4,2010

It may sound absurd but the gossip making the round is strong and fingering a south-south governor’s involvement in arms importation into the country. This particular governor has in recent time made Abuja his place of abode; trying to see how this mess could be covered up. This matter, which now seems to be under investigation by the Ministry of Defense and National Security Adviser’s office is getting more interesting that any cover up may not be easy.

This governor is like a Sheik and is alleged to have strong connections with the power that be and people who are aware of backhand dealings in the on-going investigation of the arms importation are said to be shocked and would not know how this could be covered up. As this is now in the public domain, it would seem an uphill task killing because it would showcase the federal government in bad light.

It definitely would be setting a bad precedent if allowed to die without fullest investigation and the outcome made public. But people as saying that the government that on one hand exonerated MEND from many atrocities and on the other hand prosecuting some of the MEND members, is capable of covering up anything.

The governor is question is a publicity freak – for good or bad. His State has drifted from the normalcy to high profile disorganization. This governor boasts that he has almost all the media house and practitioners in his pocket and those would always do his bidding but this could be an illusion. He is also fond of talking before thinking; does not tolerate opposition; and rules like an emperor. He is given to telling lies and could convince ‘Saints’ when he talks.

It would be the height of disservice to the nation if the powers that be try to sweep under the carpet the outcome of sincere and full investigation of the arms importation. Prosecuting those connected (no matter how remotely connected or highly placed) would be the only thing good for Nigeria and Nigerians.
