Barely two weeks after about 15 armed
men ambushed a team of five operatives
of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, killing one of them
and injuring others along Mbano-Okigwe
road, Imo state, the home of another
operative of the anti-graft agency on
Sunday night came under attack by gun
men who shot him severally in the chest.
A statement by the EFCC on Monday stated
that the home of Solomon Yorr, an
officer attached to the Economic
Governance unit which handles mainly
cases of politically exposed persons
(PEPS), was attacked in Keffi, Nasarawa
state by the gunmen on Sunday night.
The operative was rushed to a hospital
in Keffi after the attack but was later
transferred to a bigger hospital in
Abuja where he is being treated at the
facility’s intensive care unit.
The EFCC chairman, Mrs Farida Waziri has
since directed that security should be
beefed up around the officer while she
prays for his recovery. She has equally
stressed that the various attacks
against the agency and its officials
will not in any way distract or deter
us.
It would be recalled that the EFCC had
only two weeks ago raised the alarm over
the plot by some persons who are either
being investigated or prosecuted in
court to mobilise all forms of attacks
against the Commission and its
officials.
Again, on Thursday April 1, text
messages were being sent round by the
same elements threatening to kill and
maim officials of the EFCC.
