Gusau Has Not Resigned – Presidency
By Golu Timothy                        Leadership Nigeria          Tue    Aug 17,2010

Contrary to speculations that the National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President, General Muhammadu Gusau (retd) had resigned, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said the story was false.

Debunking the said resignation, a presidency source said the report was not correct as the man was still at his desk, doing his work, adding that at no time did the NSA resign his appointment.

The well known spy master was also sighted at the Presidential Villa yesterday during a security meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

A national daily (not  LEADERSHIP) yesterday reported the purported resignation of the NSA, and, according to the daily, the security aide had resigned about a month ago, but President Goodluck Jonathan is yet to approve his resignation., while the resignation has unsettled the presidency.

The report further claimed that President Jonathan had put in place measures to make him rescind the decision, while considering other options which include, either allowing his assistant,  Kayode Are, to move up the ladder or get another person to occupy the seat.

Investigation has however revealed that at no time did the NSA tender his resignation letter to the president.

It was also gathered that though the presidency was not happy about the report, it was not ready to join issues with anyone over falsehood.

Confirming this, the presidential source stated that the presidency  wondered what the authors of the rumour wanted to achieve by their action, saying “The report is not in any way enough to unsettle the presidency which is focused on touching lives within the short period available to this administration.”

The presidency source who pleaded not to be named told our reporter that the author of the story and the daily were only being  mischievous with the report.
