A story captioned “Sambo Lobbies
Mark, Reps over Electoral Act”which appeared
in one of the leading National Newspapers
was not Only misleading but a
misrepresentation of the issues that
transpired at the fraternal visit by the
legislators to the Vice President.
The contents of the publication which
insinuated that the Vice President lobbied
members of the National Assembly was far
from the truth and did not in any way
reflect what transpired at such a fraternal
assembly. The story in itself is a figment of
the reporter’s imagination and an attempt to
bring to disrepute the legislature and the
Executive and to portray the Executive in
bad light, with regards to electoral matters.
We find a story which purports to
have such substance and coming from a
supposed credible but faceless source rather
provocative.
We therefore dissociate ourselves
entirely from the story and to inform
members of the discerning public to
disregard the contents and substance of the
said story as it was done in bad taste and
with the intent of causing mischief.
It should be appreciated that the
Presidency enjoys a good working
relationship with the legislature and should
there be a need for consultations, it will
not hesitate to do so.
