The Registrar Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Professor Dibu Ojerinde yesterday disclosed that only  527,000 candidates who took part at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be admitted by various tertiary institutions out of 1.3 million candidates that sat for the examination nationwide.

The registrar charged over 400 tertiary institutions in the country to comply with the laid down guidelines which stipulates a sixty/forty (60:40) science/arts ratio for universities and seventy/thirty 70:30 technology/non – technology ratio for polytechnics.

He also reminded all federal institutions that the ratio of forty – five / thirty – five / twenty (45:35:20) for merit, catchments and Educationally Less Developed States ,ELDS should be in full force.

The registrar equally pointed out that the ratio of forty/forty/twenty (40:40:20) for state – owned institutions must be implemented; while the private institution should let the board know the ratios being used by them.

He said that the challenge being faced currently by JAMB was delay in submission of admission lists by the management of tertiary institutions

Answering another question professor Ojerinde said that admission in LAUTECH was on course adding that the crisis in the institution was over.

Professor Ojerinde however charged candidates who are yet to get admission not to lose hope as the admission would continue till the end of October.

He said that JAMB was planning to establish examination centres in all the 774 local government councils across the country.

Also in his remarks ,the chairman of the board professor Sam Ukpabi, the Igwe Eze Ekoli in Enugu State emphasized that the board expects all admissions to be made on the printout issued to them, while the quota for each course, Post – Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (P – UTME) screening score and criteria used in admitting the candidates must be indicated on the printout.

He also reminded all admission officers that all admissions will come to an end by 31st of October, 2010.

Professor Ukpabi noted that the first technical committee meeting was unacceptable to the board saying any delay in processing this year’s admission will be have serious consequences on the closing date for submissions.

He pointed out that at the past meeting in Kaduna only 294 attended the meeting out of 400 institutions, while 197 actually made submissions.
