There was stampede and tales of
horrow and death at the International
Conference Centre where bags of Rice
were given out to Nigerians.It was
simply refered to as Jonathan's rice by
the beneficiaries.After the prolonged
struggle, many recounted tales of how
people were trampled upon and how some
people were killed in the
process..Varying accounts said at least
two or three people lost their
lives.Though these figures could not be
confirmed, an ambulance was seen driving
past the venue as newsdiaryonline
arrived.
Interestingly, some people
including young men and women who were
lucky to get the rice chanted 'Jonathan
don win already' an indication that the
people viewed the gift as a presidential
campaign issue.
Ordinary citizens and security men
particularly the police made hay as
many went way with bags of rice ,For
some though .it was a tale of horrow as
many people fought in the prolonged
scramble for the staple food.
Many were seen carrying two
bags of ricr away while some boys fought
over one .Amazing in the course of such
brawl, one bag was torn and people used
their hands to pack the rice which
poured on the sandy grond.Some even
packed the sand along leaving some
observers to wonder whether it was a
refugee camp.
