President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Wednesday in Bauchi reassured
Nigerians of the commitment of his Administration to develop the
country by working very hard to grow the economy.
At the flag-off rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
North East Zonal Presidential Campaign, the President noted that
improving agriculture through irrigation, electricity and
education of all Nigerians are vital to the development of the
nation.
He also promised that the Federal Government (FG) would provide
security in all parts of the country while pledging to run a
transparent and non-discriminatory administration.
President Jonathan who thanked PDP delegates from the North East
for voting for him during the party’s national convention,
promised not to disappoint them even as he reaffirmed the FG’s
determination to continue with the exploration of the Lake Chad
basin for hydro-carbon deposits.
The President also stressed the commitment of his Administration
toward harnessing the
diverse human and natural resources found in all parts of the
country.
In his welcome remarks at the rally, the North East Zonal
Coordinator of the presidential campaign, Governor Isa Yuguda of
Bauchi State who described President Jonathan as “a just and
equitable leader,” promised maximum support of the zone for the
President during the forthcoming April election.
Earlier, during a courtesy call on the Emir of Bauchi, President
Jonathan had disclosed that two of the new federal universities
would be located in the North East, while revealing that he had
earlier in the day approved the names of five Vice Chancellors
who would take charge of the first set of the new universities
billed to take off in September this year. He also promised that
every state in the country would eventually have a federal
university.
The President who restated the FG’s determination to bring to
book those behind terrorist attacks and other incidence of
restiveness in some parts of the country no matter how long it
would take, assured that the culture of impunity would still be
a thing of the past.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, while
commending President Jonathan for his pledge during his last
visit to his palace on December 22, 2010, to recommend a
constitutional role for traditional rulers in the country,
appealed to politicians to eschew politics of bitterness and
violence.
