Violence resurfaced in
some parts of Jos ,Plateau state capital today. The exact cause
of the renewed fighting was not very clear but the fighting
recorded dozens of casualties.
Securitymen have been patrolling the
streets to restore normalcy and there are reports that hospitals
are being stretched beyond limits as the victims streamed in for
medical attention.
A state government official described the
violence as painful and regrettable, but called for calm.He said
the state government was urging citizens to assist security
agencies to bring an end to the crisis. The state government also
called on the ministry of health to make medical aids
the available to hospitals in order to treat
victims.
The renewed violence came a day before
muslim id el fitri Sallah
to mark the end of Ramadan.Plateau state has witnessed
several rounds of
violence .Today’s outbreak of fighting is an indication that all
attempts to stem the violence have not gone far enough.
Ethno-religious factors and the battle over
economic resources have made the state- like Nigeria -very
combustible for years now.
