The the turnout of
voters was a mixed grill
of some sorts.It was quite impressive in some parts of the
metropolis.But there was
apparent voter apathy in some parts of the metropolis Howver,
accreditation and voting went on peacefully throughout the
state.It seemed like a major victory for the security agencies
which pulled all the stops to ensure there was no violence
during voting.
Reports said that in
the southern
Kaduna where Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa voted at about
1.00pm, there was a large turnout of voters, while the turnout
in the northern part of the state was not too impressive. Police
and military patrol was evident
throughout the metropolis.Equally, police surveillance
helicopter constantly hovered
round the city to decipher flashpoints in record time.

Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo
who wa in Kaduna to cast
his vote said that the all those found to have been involved in
last week’s post election violence in Kaduna and other parts of
the north will be dealt with. According to him“ I must also
seize this opportunity to inform Nigerians that all culprits
would be taken in accordance to the law of this country and this
administration would not sit down to allow people to take law
into their hands. However we are working hard to ensure that the
sad experience did not occur again.
“Very soon investigation into the recent crises will soon
commence and those that are affected will be investigated and
proper measure will be taken to ensure that government do the
right thing in ensuring that people do not unnecessarily suffer
in this country”.
Earlier,he Sambo said“we thank God that today everything is
going very calm and peaceful and I would like use this
opportunity to express my appreciation to all Nigerians for the
confidence bestowed in us during the last Presidential election.
“I want to assure Nigerians that we will not fail them. Today
the trust will be seen and I must congratulate all Nigerians for
the right decision.
“I want to seize this opportunity also to express my sincere
sympathy and condolence to the victims of the last violence that
took place and prayed that Almighty God will grant us continue
peace in this country.
But Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa decried the
use of security agents
to harass electorates into doing government’s biddings in the
governorship and House of Assembly election in the state a
situation he described as
disgraceful. He noted that the high security presence across the
state was too
intimidating .Balarabe Musa who is the governorship candidate of
the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) said that the turnout of
voters across the state was very low, with several
irregularities.He revealed that political thugs hijacked
ballot boxes in Giwa local government council of the state.
Alhaji Ahmadu Coca cola On his part, the Chairman of the
Congress for Progress Change (CPC),
alleged that CPC agents
were chased away from areas like Sabon Tasha, Narayi, Ungwan
Television, Nasarawa, Gonin Gora, Ungwan Sunday, Barnawa, Makera
among other areas were there was high turnout of voters.
Also Barrister Mohammed Musa Soba, Chairman of Action Congress
of Nigeria (ACN), said that violence was recorded in Soba local
government where ballot papers were snatched.
On his Barrister Festus
Okoye ,the National Coordinator of the Independent Election
Monitoring Group, pointed out that
the election was being conducted under a difficult atmosphere in
the light of the post election mayhem in the state last week.
Specifically,he said that the fact that some people came out to
vote has thwarted
the plot of negative forces seeking a state of emergency in the
state.
Reports from Bauchi indicate that security was very high as
well.The police topguns moved
round to ensure law breakers were apprehended.But there were
still reports of ballot box snatching in some parts of the
state.
