A five- man panel of Appeal court court judges
has declared Olusegun Mimiko, candidate of
Labour Party ,LP as the elected governor of
Ondo state in South -west Nigeria. The Appeal Court
sitting in Benin in its ruling upheld the lower
court`s ruling which earlier declared
Mimiko winner of the 2007 polls. All the grounds upon
which Olusegun Agagu sought to appeal against the
lower court`s ruling were thrown out by the court of
Appeal in Benin. The ruling in Benin
elicited jubilation among Momiko`s supporters.
Mallam Jaji , a stalwart of Action Congress ,AC in
Lagos state told newsdiaryonline.com that the
judgment truly calls for celebration.``We are
rejoicing already`` he said.He added that ''we thank
God for the Nigerian judiciary'',which defied
all the antics and blackmail to declare Mimiko the
governor.
Mallam Jaji hopes that power mongers in the
country will learn the right lessons from this
judgment and henceforth stop manipulating election
results . By this verdict, Olusegun Agagu of the
People`s Democratic Party , PDP ceases to be
governor of Ondo State.
Last week, the Court of Appeal in Ilorin sacked
Governor Segun Oni from office as governor of
Ekiti State.Fresh guber polls are to be held in
Ekiti also in the south west within 90 days
from the date of the ruling.
With this ruling Mimiko joins the growing number
of governors who got to office through courageous
rulings of the courts. Rotimi Amaechi , became
governor of Rivers State through the Supreme Court
verdicts, Adams Oshiomhole also had his stolen
mandate given back to him from the Court of Appeal.
