JOS KILLINGS UNNECESSARY.....David Mark
By Emeka Okoh             Newsdiaryonline  Sun  April 25,2010

Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator, David Mark, has declared that the
unending killings in Jos, Plateau State are unnecessary, alleging that the
killings were being carried out by fanatical groups.

Mark’s comment is coming just as four persons were reportedly killed on
Saturday by unknown persons in the resurgence of the crisis in Dutse-Uku
area of Jos.

He said this while speaking with journalists at the Presidential Lounge of
the  Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos on Sunday shortly after he
arrived from Abuja .

According to him, “The killings  obviously are unnecessary and I think they
are being carried out by some fanatical groups .But I am sure the government
will bring the big hammer on everybody once they take a decision , the
government must make sure they can stamp it out .I am sure they will do
that”

On how to find the lasting solution to the killing that has defied  all
solutions, the Senate president said the good thing about the crisis is that
stakeholders in the state have met the governor and that they were talking
and trying to find lasting solution to it.

“I think the end result is that they are talking. The most important thing
in any crisis situation is the ability for all the people involve to talk
.They are talking; the Northern governors have met Governor Jonah Jang and
all the elders in the community have also made their contributions” Mark
said.

On whether Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof.
Maurice Iwu, is the problem as it concerns conducting elections in Nigeria ,
Senator Mark, said, “You should tell me .I am a politician I cannot judge
myself”.
