The President of
the Senate Senator David Mark has stated for the umpteenth time
that what makes for the interest, wellbeing and protection of
Nigerians will remain the mission and purpose of the Senate and
indeed the National Assembly.
Senator Mark stated that political parties are only the vehicles
through which public officers ride into office to serve the
people saying that
it is the interest of the nation and not political parties that
influences their legislative decisions.
The President of the Senate was speaking at
Mbise, Imo state after he was conferred a Chieftancy
title of 'Enyi Oha -Mbise(worthy friend of Mbise)
by the traditional council of chiefs in the area during
the weekend. Senator representing Imo East and chairman, Senate
committee on Navy
Chris Anyanwu was also conferred with the title of 'Ada Eji
Agamba ( a worthy first daughter we are proud of).
Eze Chidi Okoro, chairman of Imo East council of chiefs led
other traditional rulers numbering about 80, to confer the
titles on the awardees
amidst pomp and pageantry.
He further canvassed for unity and peaceful co-existence between
and among various ethnic and religious groups
saying that successful administration is the
one in which both the government and the governed enjoys
mutual cooperation and respect.
Senator Mark added that irrespective of pressures from foreign
nations " we will neither abdicate our responsibilities to our
people nor be intimidated or fall to their blackmail.
"we shall do what is just and right for the nation. We shall not
be fooled or deceived by the antics of any foreign donor or aide
to mortgage our culture and tradition for what is ordinarily a
taboo".
Even the Holy book affirmed that sex is for procreation in
marriage, God created sex so that we can reproduce after our own
kind. Genesis chapter 1 : 28 tells us that God blessed the
man and the woman and commanded them to be fruitful and
multiply and fill the earth".
Earlier at a thanksgiving service in honor of Senator Anyanwu,
at St. Joseph catholic church, Imo state university, the
catholic community through the Priest Rev. Father Anthony Njoku
praised the Senate for the passage of same sex marriage
law and urged them not
to be cajoled by the blackmail from foreign nations to rescind
the decision.
Fr. Njoku told leaders at all levels to let the wishes of the
citizenry dictates their policies and programs.
In her remarks, Senator Anyanwu said she dedicated her victory
at the polls to God saying that it was the divine intervention
that saw her through.
Also speaking, former president of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani,
said he is proud of the senate and urged them to sustain the
good works.
