Sir,
Senate President David Mark is first
among equals at the upper chamber of the
national assembly. Whether he got there
through rigging, does not matter because
almost all of them out there at the
various levels of (s)elected positions
were thrown up through that way.
David Mark talks unguardedly,
unintelligently most times. One
therefore is in agreement with the stand
of some Igbo leaders who reacted to
Mark’s position that state of emergency
was due in South-east, nay Abia State,
because of the kidnap case involving
journalists; talked as if he loved the
journalist more than other Nigerians.
Senator Mark for making that statement
exhibited his continued hatred for Igbo
people. Going down the memory lane;
after the Nigerian civil war, David Mark
(then army Captain) was in charge of
selling Igbo citizens’ properties
declared as ‘abandoned’ located mainly
in Rivers State. He handled it well to
the detriment of our people who returned
from the war stripped of their
hard-earned properties.
David Mark today owns some choice
properties not only in Nigeria but also
overseas including golf-courses in
Europe, unknown to many. Mark is also
very wealthy and in Nigerian system, you
do not question how one got his/her
wealth. And for someone who considered
himself wealthy, he could talk anyhow on
anything he feels like, without
bothering who he has sincerely injured.
I want to ask Senator Mark; why he did
not suggest state of emergency in the
present Plateau State that has recurring
human right violations or in Borno State
where Boko Haram ensured termination of
more than 1,000 innocent souls within
few days or Bauchi State that constantly
experienced boko haram kind of violence
or in other places with worse things
happening. David Mark did not even ask
for state of emergency in Akwa Ibom
where some atrocities have been
happening for some time now and from
where the journalists left and the
governor seems the only that has
callously not bothered to sympathize
with his guests who were on their way
home but met bad and unfortunate
incident.
