Apparently, echoes of demand for a split of the Nigerian state
are becoming louder again in the aftermath recent activities of
the Muslim sect, Boko Haram, as the Tarraya Ekklisiyoyi
Kristi A
Nigeria
popularly known as TEKAN asked Nigerians to begin a review of
the possibility of the nation remaining as one, ahead of the
2014 centenary anniversary of historic amalgamation of the
country in 1914.
TEKAN, which means, Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria,
believes that the nation’s Christian community has been the
target of Boko Haram, a development which the group says has
seen to the continuing killing and maiming of a large population
of Christians and burning down of churches especially in the
north.
“Enough is enough,”TEKAN National President, Rev. Emmanuel
Dziggau, said yesterday in a press statement in Kaduna, warning
further that Christians would no longer remain docile in the
face of these attacks.
According to him, Christians too would also no longer tolerate
what he described as “sweet talks” of both the federal and the
concerned state governments, “without measurable political will
to treat the evil virus that is capable of tearing the country
apart.”
The statement said, “theTarraya Ekklisiyoyi Kristi A Nigeria;
has observed with deep concern the devilish activities of the
dreaded Islamic sect called Boko Haram whose activities are
gearing towards total elimination of Christians and Christianity
in the northern part of this country, being reason for incessant
attacks and killings of innocent law abiding Christians in the
north particularly Christians of TEKAN family.
“Therefore, the TEKAN wishes to condemn the continuous killings
of our members and other Christians in the north, especially in
the north-east region. “TEKAN may no longer accept the smooth
talk show by both the respective states and federal government
without any measurable political will to treat this evil virus
that is capable of tearing this country apart.
“TEKAN is calling on well meaning Nigerians ahead of 2014 when
Nigeria will be 100 years of her amalgamation, to decide the
possibility of our remaining together in the face of the Boko
Haram activities that is no longer acceptable to many peace
loving Nigerians.
“TEKAN may no longer tolerate any further killings of her
members and destruction of churches, properties by any agent of
murder and destructions. TEKAN is calling on her members to
remain calm and prayerful.
“We will follow events and whatever needs to be done will be
done in coordination with the heavenly host under the
captainship of our lord Jesus Christ.
“Christians may appear docile but when the time comes, even
docile people may stand up like a mighty rock.”
