FCT Minister Thanks Market Women for Electing Jonathan   Newsdiaryonline Sun May 15,2011

FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has expressed his appreciation to  FCT Market Women for voting massively for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in  the April 16, 2011 presidential election and their unflinching support of the  FCT Administration in the past one year. Speaking during the formal inauguration  of the AMAC Chapter of the Nigerian Market Women Association at the weekend, he equally thanked the women for supporting PDP candidates during the National  Assembly election.

The inauguration ceremony which took place at the Auditorium of the National  Centre for Women Development, Abuja attracted an estimated 2,000 market women.  The women who were resplendent in their white lace wrappers, blouses and green  headgears came from all over the FCT and beyond. They chorused “Market Women O  yee!” continuously as the FCT Minister addressed the capacity audience.

Senator Bala Mohammed poured encomiums on the market women for contributing  greatly to the democratic growth, the economy of the FCT in particular and the  nation in general. He particularly praised the President of the FCT Chapter of  the association, Chief (Mrs.) Felicia Sanni who he described as a frank, vocal  and courageous woman leader.

The Minister said he has learnt a lot from his constructive engagement with the  FCT Market Women Association under the strong leadership of Mrs. Sanni adding  that the FCT administration recognizes and appreciates the crucial role of women  and market women in particular in the development of FCT.

He remarked that the FCT administration has continued to open up avenues for  access to credit facilities by women. According to him, members of the association will continue to be regarded as veritable partners, stressing that  he would always respect them and answer their calls at the very shortest notice. He concluded by promising to provide the necessary frameworks for greater  self-actualization by women in FCT.

In her speech, the President of the FCT Chapter of the association, Chief (Mrs.) Felicia Sanni called on President Jonathan to retain Senator Bala Mohammed as the FCT Minister after the looming cabinet dissolution to enable him continue  with the good works he is doing in the territory. She said she was praying with the intensity and sincerity of all the grey hairs on her head for the  continuation of Senator Mohammed as the FCT helmsman.

Wife of the FCT Minister, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed in her remarks, thanked the  leaders and members of association for their interest in promoting women affairs and interests in the FCT. On her part, the Secretary of FCT Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Blessing Onyeche Onuh noted that the Minister’s wife had empowered over 500 women in the FCT within the last one year.Senator Mohammed donated N3million naira to the association while his wife, Hajia Aisha Mohammed gave One Million Naira in addition to providing food and drinks for the occasion.Mrs Onuh supported the women with N500, 000 while the Senator-Elect for FCT, Hon. Philip Tanimu Aduda, who was represented, donated N100,000.

 Dignitaries present at the launch included the Chief of Garki, Alhaji Sarpeyi Nkupi, former two-term Chairman of Kuje Area, Senator Usman Jibrin Wowo, Ambassador Jacob Ayuba Ngbako and Hajiya Binta Ibrahim President of the AMAC Chapter of the Market Women Association.
