Aide links Bankole's 'abduction' to intrigues over
election of new speaker
Newsdiaryonline Sun June5,2011

Kayode Odunaro , media aide to Speaker Dimeji
Bankole has claimed that his boss was actually abducted by the
EFCC in order to compel him to influence the outcome of the
election of a new speaker on Monday. He said abduction occurred
in spite of Bankole's earlier pledge to report himself to
the the antigraft agency.
But the EFCC had earlier stated that the
outgoing speaker was arrested based on intelligence reports
which showed that he was planning to flee Nigeria .
HERE IS BAKOLE'S SIDE OF THE
STORY:
The Speaker of the House of Representative was
abducted this night from his residence at
Asokoro by men of the EFCC.
This was inspite of his widely publicised notice
to honour the invitation of EFCC after they laid
a seige on his house on Friday. Even the EFCC
spokesman Femi Babafemi acknowledged his
intention to honour their invitation in the
media today.
Following the abduction done under the cover of
darkness at about 8.30pm, over 20 members of the
outgone house stormed the EFCC headquarters in
Abuja to inquire about the abduction but were
prevented from accessing the office.
Among them are House Committee Chairmen on
Works, Foriegn Affairs and Inter Parliamentary
Affairs Hon Onyema Chukwuma, Hon Mohammed Bature
and Hon Sada Soli respectively.
We view this desperation of EFCC to get Bankole
at all cost before tomorow election of new
leadership of the green chamber as a political
witch hunt and vendatta aimed at coercing him to
influence the outcome of the election of a new
leadership for the house of representatives.
It is patently against our nascent democracy and
rule of law. The EFCC has already convicted
Bankole on the pages of newspapers even before
concluding its investigations and charging him
to court.
