Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola
today formally assumed duties as the 4th
executive Governor of Osun state with a
pledge to transform the state within the
first 180 days of his administration.
Governor Aregbesola who arrived the state
secretariat at Abeere,along Gbongan
Road,Osogbo at about 10,00.a.m in company of
his deputy,Mrs Grace Laoye-Tomori went round
the secretariats complex and drove out
almost immediately.
He also visited the state House of
Assembly Complex and the State High Court
complex to solicit for the support of the
two arms of government.
The new state helmsman asked that he should simply be addressed as Mr.
Rauf Aregbesola saying that he should not be
addressed as His Excellency.
Governor Aregbesola lashed out on the former
President Olusegun Obasanjo as he described
his involvement in the crisis of Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso
as unacceptable to
his
government and the people of Osun State as
well as the good people of Oyo State.
Aregbesola noted that the joint ownership of the institution
will remain since the aim of joint patrimony
for Oyo/Osun is for the youth to develop
academically.
“My
government will embark on wide consultation
with leaders and stakeholders in Education
in the two states so that the action of
Olusegun Obasanjo will not jeopardize the
interest of education in the two owner
states”,he said.
He stated that in as much as he would not
discriminate in governance, all political
parties in the state will be adequately
taken care of because he said that he would
not only represent the ACN which elected him
into the office ,but the interest of all
will be paramount to him.
The governor in his maiden interaction with
journalists at the party secretariat pointed
out that it would be a great disservice for
him and the ACN government if he fails to
carry other political parties along which he
stressed is members of the same family.
According to him, the new government will change the bad
perception of the people within the shortest
possible time as the administration will be
committed to stability, promotion of wealth,
freedom and development in all ramifications
of life.
He said, himself, and his Deputy, Mrs. Titi
Laoye-Tomori will give room for positive
economic social and political changes since
the government will be the government of the
people irrespective of political party,
religious affiliation and ethnic colouration.
According to him, all ACN members will not
be allowed to participate in all forms of
violence, hooliganism and acts capable of
disuniting the people of the state but also
warned all political parties to desist from
any form of destabilization since the
government will not tolerate any act of
indiscipline in governance.
Governor Aregbesola also emphasized that
malice will never be part of his government
since “I represent the value and symbolize
the party in all ramifications and have also
ceased to be a partisan politician while my
government will be fair to all shade of
opinions in the state”.
He
however warned that he would not tolerate
people masquerading to cause violence and
provoke crisis in a bid to retaliate because
anyone caught will not go scotch free and
will be made to face the wrath of law.
His words: “it is a source of pain to me that some people
went out on the covers of ACN under the
guise of retaliating the injustice done to
us, I want to make it categorically clear
that revenge is of God only and therefore it
will be a disservice to God for anyone to in
tend to take over the work of God”.
While describing those people that engaged
in violent attack as enemy of
his government,
he directed law enforcement agents to make
whosoever is found culpable of violent act
to face the wrath of the law.
Osun State will deter and punish violence
By Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola
My good people of Osun state, I once again
wish to express my profound gratitude for
your unalloyed support during the dark days
of the recently ousted impostors. You stood
on the part of justice, fairness and
emancipation. Those small steps of showing
your undying love for our struggle became a
big step towards the attainment of our
collective dream and a giant step in
heralding a new dawn in Osun State and
Nigeria as a whole.
Together we have won a legal battle that
many skeptics had deemed impossible just a
week ago, against the full money, guile and
machinations of do or die politicians that
had a strangle hold on the Osun state
political space some days back. This is a
miracle that we created together and now we
have created history.
November 26th 2010 would forever be
remembered in the annals of Osun State as
the day of Redemption for Osun State and
transforming the hitherto rudderless state
into the bastion of hope for all development
loving Nigerians. You have so altruistically
demonstrated your resolve that never will
anybody take you the good people of Osun for
granted.
It is, therefore, on this note that I wish
to draw your attention to the alleged plans
by some of our detractors to stoke violence
and create chaos under the guise that it is
Action Congress of Nigeria members that are
retaliating the oppression, repression and
depression that they suffered under the
ousted despotic regime of Brigadier General
Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
I wish to note that the struggle for
political emancipation is often frustrated
by thoughtless individualism. We are
currently celebrating a fresh breath of
hope, freedom and liberation from the
shackles of fear, tyranny, maiming, killing,
retrogression and opportunism.
Therefore, those who may wish to perpetrate
clannish or individual vendetta would
unwittingly be jeopardizing the very
fundamentals of our current joy.
To this end, we have directed all security
agents to take care of any criminal that may
wish to corrode the joy, happiness and
celebration that currently pervade Osun
State. The maximum weight of the law would
be invoked upon any lawlessness that may be
perpetrated by anybody or group irrespective
of political affiliation.
It is a new day in Osun state. In our bid to
actualize the Awolowo slogan of freedom for
all and life more abundant, the only things
we need to fight now are poverty and
backwardness and together we shall win!
God Bless you all.
