Barely three months after his
swearing-in as Governor of
Kaduna state,
Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa has opened
up on the ceaseless allegation of empty
treasury inherited from his predecessor,
now Vice President, Arc. Namadi Sambo,
saying there is no iota of truth in the
story.
Yakowa dispelled the rumour making the
round at a forum organized by the
Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of
Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state chapter
that the allegation is not true and
urged the general public particularly
the people of Kaduna state to ignore
those rumour peddlers. It was alleged
that Sambo looted the
state
treasury as he was leaving
for
Abuja
following his elevation to the position
of 2nd citizen of
Nigeria . Sequel to this
development it was further alleged that
the state was broke.
Though he did not confirm the financial
position of the state as at the time he
took over the mantle of leadership,
Yakowa who described the issue of
treasury looting as “unfortunate and
unfair” made it clear that “there is
absolutely nothing like lootingHe argued
that prior to the elevation of the
former governor to his current position,
there were various developmental
projects going on in the state initiated
by this administration and just as they
were about going out for inspection and
commissioning of the projects across the
state, about his elevation to Abuja
took place. There has been
unsubstantiated rumour that Sambo left a
huge debt of about N31 billion in
Kaduna state
However,
Governor Yakowa said he will undertake
the inspection and commissioning of the
projects immediately after the Sallah to
enable the people see how their money is
being spent. “What you are talking about
is rumour. In government we don’t work
with rumour. Every day there are so many
rumours going about and if you allow
rumours to distract you, you will never
get anywhere and I am not going to allow
what is going round to distract me from
governing and leading the state.
“I said it during my inaugural speech
that mine is going to be an
administration of continuity,
consolidation and enhancement. The issue
of looting is unfortunate and unfair. We
have all the projects and they are
there. Before his Excellency the vice
president was elevated to the position
he currently occupies a very
comprehensive programme for inspection
and commissioning of projects all over
the state was drawn up.
“We were about to embark on that when
those changes took place. Very soon,
immediately after the sallah break, it
is my intention to go out on local
government tour to commission some of
these projects and inspect on-going ones
so that you can see where the resources
of the state are going to. But there is
absolutely nothing like looting.
“If you know who the vice president is,
you will realize that the story is not
true because we have so many projects.
But looting, it is totally no”, Yakowa
defended his former boss to put the
issue at rest finally while answering
inquisitive reporter’s question..
A M K’s comment:May God help Yakowa to rule KDS for as long as your impact would be felt. Allah ya
albarkaci Jihar Kaduna da Nigeria. Ameen.
