Spokesman of the ANPP presidential candidate, Malam Sule Yau, made this remark in Abuja Sunday night  when seventy –two party chieftains from the Niger Delta, endorsed Shekarau for the presidential race at the Aminu Kano House, in Asokoro Abuja.

Yau told newsmen that Shekarau cannot be asked to step down for any person. He argued that  it is the other candidates from the Northern part of the country who may be asked to step down for  his principal, adding that not even the northern political leaders would ask the ANPP candidate to step down.

Stating what happened recently when Shekarau was qouted to have said that he would be willing to step down for a Northern consensus candidate for the Presidential election, Malam Yau said that Governor Shekarau, out of his humility and simple demeanour, had responded to an interviewer on a Television programme that he would be willing to step down if asked by the Northern Leaders Caucus to do so, an answer which he said is being misinterpreted.

Yau who spoke to journalists in Abuja, assured that the entire North has accepted the candidacy of his principal as the most fresh and reliable among the candidates from the North who bears no grudge with anyone nor has any score to settle with any.

In his words: ''Nigerians are beginning to identify a candidate, not a party; Nigerians are beginning to identify the right candidate that will lead this country; I believe this is what is going to happen in the forthcoming election. Nigerians are tired; Nigerians are yearning for change and the person to bring that change is Malam Shekarau.”

Also speaking the Shekarau Solidarity Movement, led by Chief Kingsley Okoafor said they had endorsed the ANPP candidate in interest of the nation irrespective of their party affiliation, saying that Malam Shekarau would bring his achievements in Kano to bear in the entire country.

He said he is championing a course to mobilize Nigerians, describing Malam Shekarau as a good product. ''I have seen the man that has transformed Kano, I have seen the man Nigerians can rely on to get to the next level; I have seen the man that has broken the jinx of underdevelopment in Kano”,Okoafor said
