Jonathan’s opponents are not
credible, says Democracy Support Group
Newsdiaryonline Tue March 29,2011

Despite what it considers the past failures of the ruling
People’s Democratic Party PDP, the Democracy
Support Group ,DSG has
endorsed the Jonathan/Sambo ticket as the best for Nigeria. The
group says the political opponents of President Jonathan are not
credible enough to bring about the
change Nigeria needs
now.
This assertions were made today in Abuja at a press conference
.Honourable Missan Ukubeyinje, national president of the DSG
said ,``Beyond the
mantra of anti-corruption and occasional mention of big goals,
we have not seen the strategy and tactics
the main opposition parties seek to employ in these
regards. We are therefore not convinced that they are credible
and able to bring about the
change Nigerians seek’’
He continued : ``to express our conviction that the Jonathan/Sambo
team is the preferred ticket to bring transformational
leadership to Nigeria ,we are embarking on a person-to- person
campaign reaching
Nigerians on social
media,by email ,text messages and
in person, to vote for President Jonathan come April 9.’’
The group said “the arguments against the People’s Democracy
Party PDP are basically that it has spawn a couple of bad
governments since
1999, yet we cannot close our eyes to the reality
of change that has been brought about by one of their
members .Since President President Goodluck Jonathan became
president last year, his administration has brought a breath of
fresh air into the polity. The Goodluck/Namadi Sambo government
has shown that it is
both determined and credible.’’
Honourable Missan said Jonathan’s ``regime promised a more
transparent electoral process and delivered with the
appointment of the respected Professor Attahiru Jega as
INEC chairman.’’He added that the regime promised internal
democracy in the PDP and to its credit, neither the president nor
the vice president has been named as interfering I the party.
For instance when the courts in Enugu nullified the election of
Okwesilieze Nwodo as PDP national chairman the leadership of the
party, with the clear support of the president as
leader ,immediately asked Nwodo to step down and handover
the reins to his deputy Dr. Haliru Bello Mohammed to preside
over the party primary at the Eagle Square,Abuja’’
Speaking further in praise of the president and his deputy, the
group also said the ``sobriety which the Jonathan/Sambo team has
brought to bear at
the federal level is perhaps uncharacteristic of the PDP we
know, where brigandage and disregard for political differences
was prominent ,but it does show that the party
can be trusted at the centre. The obvious symmetry and
team work that exists in the presidency is commendable and
indicates that the present team is both serious and focused’’
``For these reasons, we of the Democracy Support Group ,DSG
wholeheartedly endorse the PDP ticket of Goodluck/Namadi Sambo
for the presidential election on April 9,’’the national
president said.
