 OGUN FORTIFIES FIRE SERVICE WITH NEW EQUIPMENT

The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to vigorously deliver social security services to the people , a statement by  Seun Dokunmu,press officer,Ministry of Works said.

The Governor made the commitment while speaking during the commissioning of 12 new fully equipped fire fighting vehicles in Abeokuta. Otunba Daniel noted that over the years, the incessant case of fire outbreaks has rendered thousands of people homeless as a result of insufficient firefighting equipment. “As a responsive government that holds the security of lives and properties in high esteem, we cannot fold our arms while both public and private properties are destroyed by fire outbreaks due to unavailability of necessary equipment, not for the reason of incompetence on the side of fire-fighters,” he remarked. The Governor expressed confidence that the equipment would meet the emerging challenges of the on-going developmental projects in the State, especially the Free Trade Zones, the Gateway International Airport and other emergency services. Otunba Daniel noted that the growth in industrialization and commercial activities has led to influx of people into the State, saying government was fully aware of the attendant challenges.The Governor assured genuine investors of his government’s readiness to always provide enabling environment for the overall development of the State, adding that their overall comfort would continue to be given priority.

In his address, Commissioner for Works, Aremo Segun Adekoya noted with delight that with the procurement of the fire fighting trucks, the ministry’s fire men would be in a better position to protect lives and property. According to him, vehicles in the ministry’s fleet were over 20 years old coupled with ancient facilities and
equipment as well as structures inherited by the present administration; the fire department could not deliver optimally. Aremo Adekoya said with the deployment of the new firefighting equipment, the recruitment of more firemen and women and Mechanical and Electrical Engineers the fire services department has now been further reinvigorated for better service delivery to the people. He announced that a new fire station has been approved for the Gateway City ,Isheri while one of the new purchased vehicles would permanently patrol the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to render emergency fire and accident rescue services. The ceremony was attended by members of the State Executive Council, top public servants, business magnates, traditional rulers and other personalities from all walks of life.
